Tackle Order - Suggestions

Sheesh, I don't think I've posted since 2017! That's wild. Anyway, I haven't ordered any new tackle since last Spring & I'm about to put together a little order but I'm unsure on a few things. Also, it sucks to say but, I haven't really stayed up to date on new fishing tackle, period, since last Summer so I apologize for how dumb a couple of these might be. 

 

River Fishing w/ Spinning Rods

 

1. Are Spro Little John Crankbaits still phenomenal pickups? 

 

2. Is the Ned Rig still a solid technique?

 

3. Anybody have any must have top waters? I have a couple Spooks & a Pompadour. Gave away a few top waters to a buddy who was getting into fishing so I'm rebuilding

 

4. Line Upgrade: I need to replace the line on all three of my rods. 

- I've been using straight PowerPro braid on my MH Rod (frogs, heavy top waters), braid to mono on the MF (light top waters, jerks & cranks) and braid to fluoro on my ML (ned rig, finesse). Should I stick with this or get something different per? 

 

5. This is a two part question: I'm looking to add another spinning rod to my mini-arsenal and am looking to spend anywhere under $120. However, I currently have combo rod & reels (Veritas & Vengeance rods). Would you suggest adding another rod OR buying a new reel?

 

6. Any new(er) plastics I should absolutely purchase?

For both hard and soft baits, 6th Sense is has really been on a roll over the last few years.

 

Berkley also has some new lines of hardbaits at good prices -- jerkbaits, crankbaits, topwaters. They also have the new Powerbait Maxcent plastics, as well as new designs in the regular powerbait line of plastics.

 

The ned rig has never been more popular, and lots of companies have new ned-specific stuff.

 

For towaters, you're going to want get on the Whopper plopper train if you haven't yet -- get a couple in sizes 110 and 75.  Pick up some classic buzzbaits too if you don't have any -- check out the Megastrike Caviton. And everyone should have a bunch of different frogs and poppers.

Definitely should have mentioned I have a whopper plopper as well! I'd have to check in my bag to see what color it is but, which do you recommend? 

 

I have a couple Cavitrons as well! Stocked up on those a few years back because the people on this site seemed to love them lol

Okay well, out of all that -- if you had to suggest - two of those to include, which would they be? I have a couple bags of Finesse TRD's & a bag or two of the TRD Craws. One of the biggest things I've had problems with is knowing which weight to go with for the jigheads, unfortunately. I've also had a few people suggest that I try out jigheads that aren't the ZMan Shroomz - your thoughts? 

 

The spots on the Susquehanna I fish rarely have any vegetation and it's all just boulders and varying types of current, lol. I'll have to look into those two jigheads though, for sure. 

 

Ned jigheads should be really light -- like 1/15. The original shroomz head have a problem with the hook breaking and the keeper coming off. They're light-wire hooks for a reason, though, so you don't want a really heavy hook. lots of options, although I actually can't think of specific companies off the top of my head other the Morel Jigheads from Siebert Outdoors I got not long ago that I like.

I ordered some jigs off Siebert Outdoors many years ago as well and loved the quality. I'll have to look back into it!

I don't think color matters much on the WP, but I like the Perch because it looks cool.
