I’m curious if anyone has used one of these new reels?  How do you like it?  How does it compare to other similar reels (Elite, Tatula sv tw, etc.)?  Will it work well for freshwater bass fishing?

I ordered one yesterday.

It’s is, for all intents and purposes, a Tatula SV TW 103, but with... a deeper (150 sized) spool, aluminum side plate, 100mm handle, a couple of corrosion resistant bearings, and sexy blue finish.

So on paper, it’s a pretty neat, versatile reel. And yes, I’ll be using it for largemouth 98% of the time.

I haven't gotten to use it a lot because the weather is not cooperating, but the little I've seen has been impressive. I have an SV, Coastal SV, and 3 Elites, so my bias is pretty clear. That said, the Coastal SV is a really nice blend of the two others. I don't think it'll handle light baits as well as the SV, but it'll manage. On the flip side, I didn't see quite as much distance as the Elite, but it was very good distance with little effort. The performance of all 3 reels is plenty good enough that you're not going to miss out on a ton of performance buying one over the other, in my opinion. I prefer the Elites because I like the little bit of distance and don't really require the control of the SV. If you like the looks of one over the other, that's probably the one I'd pick.

And yes, I just asked mine about bass and the reel has no clue what kind of fish it's catching.

The 150 is just the old Tatula from before the Tatula CT re-released as a new reel.  It's a big girl but not bad my any means.

True of the Tat 150.
But the coastal 150 is a 100 sized reel with a 150 spool.

I wasn't sure if I would like the blue, but it catches my eye every time I walk through my back room. It's a good looking reel.

I put spacers in mine to accept 33mm OG Tatula SV spools. My ZPI M spool can't get here soon enough! Now I'll be covered with techniques and capacities.

I have the Elite, 2020 Tatula SV TW, Coastal SV TW as well as the ELite P/F.

Out of all I think the Coastal SV TW is the most versatile one. I can throw light lures on it as well as heavier ones, it has great line capacity, is super smooth and looks cool as well. For 175$ shipped it is a steal and I would get it.

The Elite is a great all - around reel. It handles a good spectrum of lures, gets a bit finicky in windy situations for me. That is where the Tatula SV is more solid. It does not cast as well, but covers the spectrum with greater 'backlash' protection.

The P/F (basically the Elite with a different handle and spool) is a solid pitcher. I tried it yesterday at a local pond with some 79# test braid. I dont see any noticeable difference in pitching performance to other reels to be honest, but I like the new knobs.

Overall I would say that the new Elite platform is a win. I still prefer my Steezs' a bit, but they are not worth twice the price imo.

Did you make those spacers?

Yeah. It's a shame ZPI isn't making spools anymore, so this'll have to do!

Not that it’s really worth it, but I kinda wondered if any of the lower capacity SV spools would drop in.

I guess the answer is not without spacers?

You should strongly consider putting your skills to work making spacers for the 36mm TD Zillion to 34mm spools and Alphas 33 to Pixy 31.  They are in demand and you can earn some bucks.

You mean these? lol

I've made alphas/pixy spacers too, for a bud on another forum

Yeah, just fill the stock spool to your requirements. There aren't any other SV spools that will fit without them. Well...there might be some DIY ones, but I'm not sure.

I've had mine for about 2 months now and it still hasn't seem any action.  It feels and looks pretty perfect though.  Love that 100mm handle!

I think I already know it cannot be done, but to reconfirm, you can't just machine out an Alphas to take a 34mm Steez spool, right?

I bet somebody could with a CNC. That little lip/ trim piece on the frame is about 1mm wide so you'd be left with half of that.

It depends on how much material would be left after boring and if all other clearances, thumbar, etc, allowed for a larger spool. If they do then it's totally doable. No need for a CNC here. Single point boring of the casting would be the easy part on a standard milling machine. Determining where the casting's square and it's relationship to the spool shaft's alignment through to the sideplate would have to be doped out. Making a fixture in order to firmly secure the frame in order to bore it could be the most time consuming part. Light skeletal castings tend to ring like a bell when cut. The fixture might be be easy, or it could be tricky. There 's no way to know without inspecting the entire show. Ultimately, unless you have an uncle in the business, I doubt the juice would be worth the squeeze. It wouldn't be inexpensive.

Got my Coastal in the mail today from Sportman’s Outfitters. This thing is very nice. Same size as the Tatula 100 but feels a lot nicer. I love the long handle. Can’t wait to try it out this weekend.

Got bored today and found that the 150 SV spool will not fit in the Tatula Elite, nor the Elite spool in the coastal. The side plates can be swapped however, if you want a black and blue mix. The spool may work if you added or removed shims, but I didn't go that far.

How are those knobs treating you?

I HATE THEM! HATE THEM I TELL YOU!

Just kidding.  At first glance they are OK. They are larger than photos make them look, but I much prefer the big Abu Revo knobs.

Yep. We’ll see.

One thing is kind of strange... the spool does not free spin half as long as my Tat CT.  Even with all adjustments backed off, if I finger flip the spool on both, the Coastal spins maybe 1/3 or less the amount of time. Odd.
