As some of you may have read, I am kind of jumping in both feet on replacing/updating some of my older rigs.

I thought I was finished for right now, but then got seduced by one of the Blue Daiwa Coastal SVs. ?

Sooo... now I need to pair a rod with it. What would be a good rod to round out this 4 rig setup?

Revo SX / Carbonlite 2.0 7’ MH/F

Revo SX / Carbonlite 2.0 7’ M/F

Tatula CT / Tatula 6’10” MH/F

Coastal SV TW / ...........

I could move the Tat CT to one of my older 6’6” M/F Berkeley rods and throw the Coastal on the Tat 6’10”?
Or should I add a moderate action rod to the mix?

Maybe a 7’3’ish heavy could use as frog / small swimbait/ flipping rod. In my opinion you should have at least one heavy rod.

H/F casting

MH/F casting

MH/MF casting

M/MF casting

M/F spinning

ML/F spinning

You will do well with essentially everything you encounter with these rods.

I think you are approaching this all backwards, you need to find a purpose first and then select the gear for that purpose.

I don’t really disagree.... but here I am? Haha.

But really, I have a specific purpose in mind for everything I’ve picked up, just not the coastal reel.

Maybe I’ll just fish the new gear for a little while, and fill that spot when I run into a need.

Make either the M/MF or MH/MF  a true moderate action and I'd agree. And based on where/how you fish you can eliminate some. I have zero use for a H/F rod. Also you can swap an XF instead of fast if you prefer. Fast or extra-fast and a few inches of length (6'10" vs 7'0") makes no difference in my book and is personal preference.

Sounds like you really don’t need the reel, so you can send it to me and I’ll even pay for shipping. My address is...

lol.

Sorry I can’t help you further, my brain is paralyzed trying to process the myriad of possible configurations and combinations.

As already mentioned just try it out on a rod you have now and see where that leads.

If I did have to recommend one based on what you already own it’d probably be a mod-fast action rod of some sort for treble hooked lures.

This is kind of where my head was at.

The 7’ M/“R” Tatula maybe?

If I were drinking or eating something as I read this, I would have spit it out laughing MAO.

To my other dark side brethren, the monkey (bait monkey) is strong in this

one. ???

You’re pretty new here but you’ll soon know about this primate very soon.

Oh me and the monkey are old friends. We talk, I feed him, he shuts up for while, then he gets hungry again.

Ha, but full disclosure, one of my other (competitive) hobbies that I take pretty seriously usually takes up all my fishing time. It’s been pretty much shut down due to the craziness (virus), so the gear monkey from that hobby (let’s call him Carl) is bored and his attention somehow got focused on fishing. ?

But I’m ok with it. It has re kindled my love for setting hooks (and buying shiny new fishing gear).

The reel is designed to match Daiwa coastal rods with identicle blue components.

What is your budget?

I know absolutely nothing about how or where you fish.  Soooo any suggestion from me will probably be way off the mark from what you need.  The Coastal holds a lot of line...for a bass reel.  I'd use the reel on something that would take advantage of that.  Something along the lines of what Born 2 fish suggested or a crankbait rod for making long casts.

Like I said, but now it’s confirmed and having other monkeys ? to boot, “The force is strong in this one.” ?

Considering what you already have i would have to have a 7'6 heavy for flippin duties.  I can't see myself without my flippin sticks. Every time I attempt throwing plastics or jigs on my shorter lighter rods I find myself missing or losing fish. I'm sure others have different options but if I had the arsenal you have I'd definitely add one to my collection. You've got the 7' medium rod I'd use it for treble hook baits.  The medium heavy for spinnerbaits and bladed jigs as well as lighter Texas rigs and senkos etc.

What gear ratio is the coastal?  If it were mine I'd probably move it to the med heavy rod and use it with 20 lb fluoro for spinnerbaits and bladed jigs. Move the sx in the 7 ratio to the flippin stick if you go that route. Lots of decisions but I think 4 combos is a good number kinda let's you cover everything if setup the right way.  Good luck with it and let us know what you end up going with!

7.1

theres def no “right” answer. Just want to be versatile.

I feel like a M/MF might be a good addition, as I throw a fair amount of shallow cranks (particularly Mann’s Baby 1).
