walleyecrazy Posted May 11, 2020 Posted May 11, 2020 Mine is definitely a jerk bait, and within the last year or so a vibrating jig. Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted May 11, 2020 Global Moderator Posted May 11, 2020 Pretty proficient with a lot of baits. Don't make me fish a C-rig or a crankbait and I'll be alright. 1 1 Quote
gilkeybr Posted May 11, 2020 Posted May 11, 2020 As long as the weeds haven't grown up too high, give me a suspending jerkbait and i'm pretty confident I won't get skunked. Also since last season have really liked the Duo Realis Vibration G-Fix 62. Lots of ways to work it that can trigger a bite. I typically have one tied on. Quote
Super User Cgolf Posted May 11, 2020 Super User Posted May 11, 2020 Baits would be slider rigged plastics and square bills. Slider rigged plastics covers a lot, because I fish all styles of plastics on them. As far as cover goes, I love reed beds. With or without millfoil. I just have my system really dialed in. Saying the above I fish a lot of different stuff throughout the year. Quote
Primus Posted May 12, 2020 Posted May 12, 2020 I feel I'm proficient at many of the baits & presentations that are out there though using spoons & blade baits are a couple of presentations that I don't have a lot of confidence in . Swimbaits/ Glidebaits are my favorite baits to throw for horizontal presentations and jigs are my favorite for pitching around cover. That said I try to be versatile , in almost any category I like to use larger profile baits whenever possible. 1 Quote
J-rod Posted May 13, 2020 Posted May 13, 2020 I'd say my wheelhouse is in the sticks and slop. Give me a good flipping or punching setup, or a frog, and I'm all confidence. I'll take topwater poppers and ploppers in clear water near shore. I'm comfortable in that element. I'd say jerkbaits and ned rigs are my least successful presentations... which keeps me from putting in the time to learn how to actually use either one efficiently. Also, if you put me 50 yards from the shore, I couldn't find a fish with a gps tracker on it. 1 Quote

You dont like dragging a ball and chain on a long point or flat. It's boring but I'll wear a flat out with a c rig or a football jig. Quote
Bruce424 Posted May 13, 2020 Posted May 13, 2020 fishing with a spinnerbait and squarebill shallow and jig fishing(football or Pitching) Quote

I'd about rather just put it on the trailer than drag a rig though. Quote

Riiiight, I get that... but theres some bites that I personally get on a c-rigged senko, zoom meat head, or centipead, that I just wont get on a football..yes instill have several bags of meat heads... not a drop shot bait for me lol . If it's a big worm, or any type of craw I most go with the football jig...skirtless for the worms. I just like the feel better. Neither is my favorite, but I dont hate em... had some quality fish over the winter with a downsized football jig. Still have some hybrid hair football jigs from North star, that flat out kill it. Football jig heads, weather skirted or not, worm or craw, are starting to make their way to the deck full time... it's just a go to search presentation...just a slow one... definately there during the winter. Only time I fish deeper than 5ft is thru ice chasing panfish. One thing that always amazes people is how shallow bass will get in cold water. I was out several weeks back when the water was I'd guess high 40s and a gentleman drove up to me and said hey man the waters still to cold so don't waste your time from shore. I responded huh that's weird I've been out a few hours and I've caught 6 already. Then I told him I caught a 7lber the week prior. He just said oh...and slowly drove away? I fished through the ice several years ago and the bass we caught were inevitably in less than 6' - sometimes in 2-3' we would watch them come up and eat a beatle or marabou jig. It was a real lesson in bass behavior. They are where ever they want to be Quote
