I've been fishing a friend's farm pond for a few years now.  It's a couple acres max, and has koi, carp, catfish, bluegill and bass.  Got a little surprise today when I pulled out a walleye.

I haven't been able to contact the owner to see how it got there, but I'm curious if it's any reason for concern in a small pond?  Should they be removed when caught?

Thanks!

A walleye will eat no more or less forage than a bass. If the water is to small it's only going to support so many fish regardless of species. I would not be concerned. Sure they might eat a few small bass but most ponds could benefit from than any how. I would put money on bass eating more small bass than a few walleye

Sounds like a fun pond to fish.

It's been a saving grace during this whole fiasco.  And, it is fun.  Holds a few big girls, too.  Largest I've found weighed 7.62#.

No expert, but I probably wouldn't worry. They're no more of a predator than a bass. Plus they're going to have a hard time reproducing in a small pond.

It won't reproduce in the pond and isn't going to eat everything in it. Enjoy the bonus fish.

I would remove it but not out of concern for pond health

Nice catch. Those private farm ponds have low fishing pressure so they tend to have big bass that are less picky than bass from a public pond. There are probably some channel catfish and bluegills in there as well.

Could be the work of ospreys, kingfishers or trunk sneaks

PM me the address to this pond. I'll take care of that walleye problem for you ;)

It can only be found by those who already know where it is ?‍☠️?‍☠️ lol

Talked to the owner... Said fish had been added a few times over the last decade.  Some purchased, and some "came from the river".
