Favorite Early Summer Time Baits

Hey BR its currently 2:35am and I don't know what to do with my life.

So what are your favorite lures for after spawn/early summer?

I went yesterday not knowing the fish were in their post-spawn phase .After several hours of fishing shallow with not much to show ,  I found a spot 8 to 10 foot deep on a point and caught fifteen including  a limit of 15 inch keepers   The two lures that caught them were a Texas rigged Dinger and a Rapala Crankin Rap CR14 .

Martin, despite our deal with throwing big baits, my best bite-getter for post spawn is a size 8 XRap jerkbait.  We are talking 20 fish beatdowns on it.  Good luck buddy.

I like a buzzbait and frogs/ toads where I can find pads.

I start early season with spinnerbait, lipless, and jig. By this time of the season, I use plastic worms most of the time. T rigged

Early morning and I'm sliding a ScumFrog over the cabbage, looking for the fish that have had their morning cup of coffee. By about 8AM I am tossing something T-Rigged at them.

 

If I am fishing small rivers. I typically start with a BizzBait Craw on a Dirty Jigs Pivot point and than switch to a 1/8oz Rooster tail, with a Gold or Copper blade.

Its funny that people are already talking about early summer and here I am hoping that the lake I’m going to on Saturday for fishing opener has water temps above the mid 40’s.

Senkos...swim jig...Texas rigged brush hog...flipping jig with a speed craw...popper or buzzbait

Buzzbait, Frog, Chatterbait, Keitech on an Owner underspin, Senko. Likely fished in that order of preference. Or a jig if there's something to throw it at; lots of weeds here.

Honorable mention this year to red/green trick worm on shakeyhead or red/green ring fry 4" on a slip shot.

Early summer is when a guy can bust out about whatever he wants and catch some fish.  It may be faster to list things that wouldn't be on an early-summer bait list.

 

I use everything in early summer, but my use of anything with trebles (other than topwaters) backs way off due to the amount of vegetation in local lakes.

Still having some crazy weather here, supposed to drop to 26 tonight after being almost 80 last week.

 

But when it happens, texas rig worms, weightless Senkos (wacky or texas rigged), Whopper Plopper/Frog, squarebills, jig and new this year, swimbaits, specifically the Spro Rat and Bucca 4x4 Bullshad. Don't know yet how those last two will work but I'm after size rather than numbers this summer.

I rarely know what the best producer is going to be, but you're asking a fair question.

In June & July, I'll spend a lot of time throwing T-rigged worms, like the Power Worm and Cut-R.

By the time the bass are done with their spawn the bluegill will be up shallow on their beds. Put just about anything in between them and the bass and you'll catch 'em up. Paddletail swimmers as diminutive as a Megabass Hazedong Shad or bulky like a Beast Coast Miyagi are what I throw to target them in low light. Killer. Slinking a 10" Berkley power worm or Ol' Monster in the same zone can also work great if that's what they want that day.

I pitch, swim & drag texas rigged worms, & craws/swimbaits and always look for a topwater bite....If conditions are right, I will look to throw a floating jerkbait like the bomber long a or Rapala, Bagley Bang o lure etc... 

 

ALways have a torpedo rigged up on a spinning rod & hollow body frog as well.

My favorite lure to use for summer is topwater but I will use whatever lure needed to catch bass.

*Refining Senko (or other 4" & 5" stick worms) techniques further :   I like wacky rigged in Spring & Fall and T-Rigged in Summer and Winter (some may prefer wacky rigged or T-Rigged all year) ... This season I am trying out the VMC "Drop Dead" flutter worm technique weighted  hooks  favored by Davey Hite and Terry Bolton. I'm also using Gary Yamamoto's specially designed soft plastic (Senko)  Owner Twistlock Light Hook (3/0 size for 4" stick worms & 4/0 size for 5" stick worms) .
