As an update on the 6'10"....

To be honest, when it arrived I wasn't sold. It is a VERY nicely crafted rod, but at first glance, the tip is SUPER thin, and I thought the trigger/reel seat was going to be a little uncomfortable. I also kind of wished it was a full 7'.

Then I stuck my Coastal SV on it and used it a little.

And I'll tell you what, I kind of forgot about any concerns I had. With that reel, it might be the most balanced rod/reel combo I've ever held. It's balanced so well, it makes the rod feel even lighter than it is. Somehow the <7', thin tipped rod seems to punch above it's weight.

Realistically, Daiwa probably could have gotten away with a $200 price tag on this rod.

It's going to be real hard to not add the 7'1" Heavy, or the 7'3" MH soon.

  Thought you would like the rod.  Guess I will have to try the Coastal SV you guys talked me into buying on my OG Tatula 6'10" MHF.

I've always felt my OG Tats were one of the best rods you could get for the money.  Especially since $100 was the most I ever paid for one.  The Fenwick Elite Tech Smallmouth was another rod that punched above its price.

You will like it.. i like it for heavy t rigs too.   It's a stiff rod 3/8 -1/2 is the sweet spot.  A 3/8 jig with a rage bug loads pretty good.  Good hook sets, especially with braid.  Let us know what you think when it gets in.  I think Catt has one too.  I have used it for soft swimbaits on 1/4 oz beast hook, and it did great.

Just came in this morning.

USPS literally crushed one end of the shipping tube, so that had me a little worried, but the rod seems to be OK.

Nice rod.

I can't tell if it's not quite as heavy as I was expecting, or if the tip isn't quite as fast as I was expecting... But I learned from the 6'10 to not judge these rods too quick.  I'm planning on this being my go-to jig and frog rod for right now, and I think it has enough umph for that. It's no broomstick though.

Hopefully I'll get to pitch some jigs this weekend.

Nah man, that tip action is fast! Wait and see... the flex is really high in it.

Yea, going to tie on a 3/8" jig and trailer this evening and cast it some. That'll tell me a lot more.

Since you've had it a while, are you comfortable pulling frogs trough moderately heavy pads/grass with it? Plenty of power?

Oh yeah.  I was on a tw bite last week and had black frog on my endurance and a yellow one on the tat.  It did fine in the milfoil, reeds and brush.  Like I said before, daiwa rods seem like they are a touch heavier than their rating.   I also use a heavy trig/light punch rig on it and do just fine.  I like it with 1/2 oz tungsten and a beaver pitching to holes in the hydrilla.  And if course I fish jigs on it.  It doesnt load great with 1/4 but it loads good with 3/8 and a trailer.  No problems with power in cover.  @Catt has one he stated he uses it for jigs.

Good stuff.
I’m sure it’s gonna be a great rod.

How I’m gonna resist a 7’1” MH, and a 7’ Glass, I have no idea.

I tied a frog on my 6’10 MH-F last night. I caught a couple of decent fish and had to drag them through the grass in a kayak. The rod was great. I’ve used this rod for jigs 1/4-1/2, t-rig 1/4-1/2, crankbaits, jerkbaits, frogs, and even threw a wacky senko on it a time or two. I love this rod.

The 6'10 is great. I've used the heck out of it the past few weeks as a Senko rod.

But to me, and where I fish, it's not a frog or jig rod. I'm not saying it won't work, just that In some of the structure/weeds I'm likely to toss a jig into, I need more control over the fish than the 6'10 can muster.

ETA: Sorry, I just remembered the title of the thread was the 6'10".  We've kind of drifted to talking about the 7'1" Heavy.

I know it isn't ideal for a frog rod, it's just what I have right now. I'm going to be getting a frog/pitching rod this winter. It works fine for the moment. As far as a jig rod, unless you're throwing something really heavy or super thick cover, I think it's a great rod for that purpose. A heavy would be better for thick cover though.

Pitched some jigs with the 7’1” this morning on a little secret lake. It did great. Never really needed to get into the power of the rod real hard (unfortunately), but it’s plenty sensitive, and the action is just about spot on for pitching a 3/8 jig and craw.

Looks good with that blue reel.  Glad you like it! I had a short trip this evening before this storm came in.

I caught 2 on the Dx 744 with 3/8 PB&J color jig, switch to the tat with a black/blue 3/8 and caught 2 more and powered them outta some brush.(pitching to lay downs & cut brush that was dumped in the lake)

Nice!  You know I've never been too concerned about matching colors, but the Coastal SV would probably look good on a Zolo, Helium 3 or (older) Smoke Inshore as they all have blue trim.

Probably look good on a Dobyns Champion too.

Probably, but I only have one Dobyns...the 704CB Glass.  I don't think I want a 7 speed reel on it.
