Dude, that rod will be far away better than what you have.  Put some 30-50 # braid on it and use a leader if u want.  Take it out and you will see.  If I ever gaze my powells out, I'll get some more tatulas... my son is getting to where he likes my rods, so daddy might get me ones.

Well, I grabbed the Carbonlites in the Revo SX combo for $159. Too good to pass up.  The Carbonlite 2.0s are spoken very highly of by a few guys I trust, so we’ll see.

But yea, I have high hopes for the Tat 6’10” being a very solid all purpose rod.

I have two holes that aren’t really accessible by boat that require a bit of a walk, so I usually only carry one or two rods in. Hoping the 6’10” will fill that role well and take on whatever I need to throw that day.

I have 3 Carbon-Lite 2.0 rods, one is the 7' MF.  They are very good rods, but the Tatulas are significantly better IMO.  I paid $79 each for my Carbon-Lites and $99 each on many of my Tatulas.

Yea, I was dead set on only Tatulas or Furys until I saw those combos. In Essence, you could say that you get the Carbonlite rods for about $10.

But I'm still going to try the 6'10" Tat.

Yes, I think I’m going to order the 6’10” from them today.

I’ve got a 7’ M/F and a 7’ MH/F Carbonlite 2.0 coming, so hopefully the the 6’10” Tat will compliment them well.  (Yes I’ve gone a bit nuts this week updating my gear but YOLO I guess).

Congratulations on the new combos.  My 6'10" MHF Tatula weighs 3.63 oz.  I think you will love the rod.

I see you have been using a baitcast reel since you were 8.  You haven't put much information in your profile so I don't know if you are 18 or 80.  :lol1:  I am going to assume you are very good with one.  You shouldn't have any problems with the weights of the T-rigs you want to use.  I've seen a buddy cast lighter than that on a MHF St. Croix, and they also fish heavy.

I have been pretty good with with them... I’m just a touch rusty now.

I’m in my 30s. I started throwing ABU 5000s at smallmouth when I was 8 or 9, float fishing the Current River in SE MO with my grandfather. Have to be quick, have to be accurate. I lost a lot of lures, and picked a bunch of nests on that river though. ?

I threw a Mini King (1/8) a little yesterday on a 6’6” Berkley M/F and a 5000 some yesterday, so I feel like a 3/16 T rig or a 1/4 spinner on the new combos shouldn’t be a problem.

Am I correct in thinking the Revo SX and the Tat CT might throw the light stuff easier than my 5000s?

Definitely...we me at the wheel.  First I can't cast a 1/8 oz. lure with a baitcast reel and if I could I don't think I would ever try with my 5001C.  I have that spooled with 17# mono and mounted on a 6'6" MHF rod that is rated 1/2 - 2 oz.

I was 61 before I got my first low profile.  Never used the 5001C after getting it because I didn't know anyone that had one...or had ever used one.  No Internet.  Had no idea how to set it up so it got put away.  Cast great now, tho.  :lol1:

I've tried a 1/8 oz. spinnerbait, but distance and accuracy were both poor.  That was a few years ago.  Maybe my thumb has improved enough to try again.  But it will be with a Pixy or Scorpion 4x4 SVS.  You are one of those guys who could cast 1/16 oz. with these reels.  Disgusting.  :annoyed1:  :badlanguage:  :rofl_red:

I’d try it......

If I had a 30mph wind on my back. ?

Thought I'd update this...

I just received the 6'10" MH/F. What a beautiful rod. It seems like a very versatile rod, but the tip is definitely thin. I'd say even a 1/2oz jig would load it up a LOT.

I think the 7'1" MH/XF might be more what I'm looking for. I've hear it's very similar to this 6'10", just with a little beefier tip.

A little load isnt a bad thing.  Mine seems fine with 1/2 ounce spinner bait

No doubt.

I guess I should clarify that isn't a detractor really.

I'm just thinking now that maybe the 7'1" may be better suited for throwing and pitching jigs and some frogs into somewhat grassy areas (which is what I'm looking for).

I think this 6'10 rod would be about a PERFECT weightless Senko rod though.

Give it a try first.  I like it for pitching jigs..I've literally used it for everything so far.  Good all around rod.  3/8 plus weight from a soft plastic trailer really is the sweet spot for that rod.  Dont let that soft tip fool you.

If you want a jig rod, get the 7'1" Heavy.  That is my 2nd favorite rod in the lineup.  Fantastic rod.  I use it for jigs, heavier t-rigs, frogging in sparse cover, and small glidebaits.

I think that's really the rod I'd like. But Sportsmans Outfitters doesn't have it, and It seems to be out of stock most everywhere for some reason. You MIGHT be able to find it somewhere for full retail ($160), but that $109 price from SO is part of what's attractive.

Good news and bad news.

Bad news, after a quick look, I was able to find the 7'1 heavy online ...but its 139.. still a little cheaper

Good news, if your looking for a longer jig rod, I found a 7'6 Heavy tatula for 109 with free shipping

If I had the extra money, I'd get it today.

Thanks for the help. (PM’d you)

Well that’s the thing, I don’t really want longer for a couple of reasons... just enough umph to jig and frog in some cover.

How is it for frogging? Is it too fast to get a good hookset?

Haven't used it for frogging  I have a rod for that.   I prefer a fast or extra fast action for top water frogs.  You need it both to walk it and to drive those big hooks home    slower action rods were never meant for getting the hook set, only for keeping fish on with treble hooks    when you go to set the hook on a frog blow up, the timing is YOURS, when u slam that hook homw, you want that rod to flex pretty quickly, to get into the backbone and drive that hook home.   From there it's about getting the fish in..  I think the rod industry has confused the vast majority so bad so they can just sell more rods.

It would probably work just fine as long as the cover isn't too horrible.    If I can access the lake tmw, I'll experiwmnt ... But I like a 7foot and some change Heavy, fast or xf.    Powell 735 is what I use.

As an update on the 6'10"....

To be honest, when it arrived I wasn't sold. It is a VERY nicely crafted rod, but at first glance, the tip is SUPER thin, and I thought the trigger/reel seat was going to be a little uncomfortable. I also kind of wished it was a full 7'.

Then I stuck my Coastal SV on it and used it a little.

And I'll tell you what, I kind of forgot about any concerns I had. With that reel, it might be the most balanced rod/reel combo I've ever held. It's balanced so well, it makes the rod feel even lighter than it is. Somehow the <7', thin tipped rod seems to punch above it's weight.

Realistically, Daiwa probably could have gotten away with a $200 price tag on this rod.

It's going to be real hard to not add the 7'1" Heavy, or the 7'3" MH soon.

I knew you would like it.  It's a good spinner bait rod.  I'm prob going out babk fishing for an hour before my sons baseball practice.  I've got a KVD wake bait tied to it now.  Been a decent topwater rod so far too.

Excellent rod, huh?  I have a Tat SV TW on mine.  Excellent balance, great rod for $109, let alone the $200 range.

I ordered the 7’1” Heavy for jigs and frogs. I’m so pleased with the 6’10”, I figured it was a safe bet.

You will like it.. i like it for heavy t rigs too.   It's a stiff rod 3/8 -1/2 is the sweet spot.  A 3/8 jig with a rage bug loads pretty good.  Good hook sets, especially with braid.  Let us know what you think when it gets in.  I think Catt has one too.  I have used it for soft swimbaits on 1/4 oz beast hook, and it did great.
