Trilene Big Game has been my choice for my baitcast reels for years now. Im always on the lookout for a mono for my spinning reels, which has a thinner diameter, and handles well, with good abrasion resistance. I've used original Stren and Trilene XL for a long time. The Solutions Spinning mono is slightly thinner in diameter than others and is a mist green color. It comes in 250 yard spools, instead of the usual 330 yard spools. Im using 8lb on 2500 size Shimano spinning reels. I've fished it three times now. So far so good. It handles and cast very well, and has proven to have good abrasion resistance as well. Low memory also. If you need a good handling line for your spin reels, you might check this one out. And, the price is right too.

Is the abrasion resistance any better than Trilene XL? Sometimes I get a spool of XL that just seems to break at the knot more often than it should---sometimes twice a trip.

I pretty much gave up on XL, because I think they changed it somehow. This line seems to have as good of abrasion resistance as XL to me.

I think I used solutions on a spincast reel once.  My go to mono is Trilene XL.  never experienced it breaking at the knot, I use the trilene knot with trilene ?

the past few years I've been using Glen's spooling technique and soaking the spool in warm water.  It works amazingly well at reducing memory and increase handling on a spinning reels.  check out the video

Yes, soaking the spool in warm water helps a lot too. I've done that quite a bit also

Have you tried Sufix Siege? i have been using 4, 6 and 10 on my spinning reels for a few years now and love it. its strong and abrasion resistant like Big Game but handles much better.

I use it on both my spinning and casting gear.

That's another one I've heard good things about, but havnt tried yet. I probably give it a spin when I need to respool.

Thin applies to flat sheets diameter applies to rounds.

TW list the diameter of the majority of fishing line they sell under read more details

Evaluate fishing line by it's diameter. 2500 spinning reel any mono, coploy ot FC line over .010 diameter is a problematic to memory issues.

Tom

PS, Berkley Solutions mono 8 lb test is .010 diameter and XL 8 lb is .010D, Suffix Advantage mono 6 lb is .010 D and Sunline SuperNatural 10 lb is .010D. There is a wide range is lb test vs diameter. It appears Solutions is the same as XL.

So is Berkley solutions just a renamed Trilene XL?

From what I heard several years ago when Berkley came out with a catfish line, its was just a renamed trilene big game in a smaller spool size. It had a different packaging and they charged more for it per yard.

I have to agree with @Hulkster. I use Sufix Siege on spinning and baitcasting setups. I use 12# on baitcasters and 8# and 10# on spinning gear.

I doubt it's exactly the same.  Pure Fishing has a lot of brands and lines under each brand.  Possibly a renamed spiderwire or stren formula or something else now defunct.  Solutions also only comes in a few tests compared to trilene

love siege on my casting reels but something about the sufix filler spools that makes it impossible for me to spool onto spinning reels

I have a line spooling station. The main thing is to have the spool in a vertical position with the line coming off the bottom of the spool. Glenn has a video on this in the rods and reels section of the videos.

Siege mono 8 lb = .011D, 10 = .012D, 12 lb = .014D

that's my problem.  I just lay the spool on the floor.

Label up or label down. The spool on a spindle coming off the bottom turn the spool counterclockwise, the correct direction for every modern spinning reel.

that's not the issue. sufix spools have a notch in them that the line catches in if you try to spool with it on the floor.

You will be much better off doing it the way I recommend in Glenns video than laying it on the floor. Keep some tension on your line as it goes on to the reel.

The Solutions line is the same diameter as XL, but a softer formula for spinning reels.

This is how I spool spinning reels.  Has worked for more than two decades.

Thank you for posting this. This info was in the first spinning reel I bought almost twenty years ago. I wanted to post this but being a computer dummy I wasn't sure how to do it.

I used to do it this way if I had someone to hold the spool.  I'll have to rig something up to do it myself.
