I am going to get 1 bait casting G-Loomis, I am not sure to get the 803 or 804, Right not I have medium(to MH) and XH Rod and looking for something between, So confuse about this choice, because I saw some review on YouTube and they said 803 is not MH, but little stronger than normal MH, I am going to use Metanium DC with 20lb test braid and 16lb test fluorocarbon for leader.

anyone own both of them or have any idea?

The 803c JWR rod you ask about, is right in the MH zone. Great for 1/4-3/8oz jigs plus trailer.

Great rod.

I think the 843c MBR is one of the most versatile rods on the market and would fit nicely in your quiver.

I have one with a Met DC and look for an excuses to use it

80 = 80 inches long, 84 = 84 inches long in Loomis rod part numbers.

3 = MH, 4= H in Loomis part numbers. GLX844C MBR is consider the standard TT uses to compare rods against. Look for sales, this is a older model number that has been around over a decade. In the price range you have a lot to choose from.

Tom

PS, Covid19 makes it difficult to go to a local tackle shop, I know Fishing Fools has a full line of both Loomis and Shimano rods

803/4 or 843/4? Your title and post contradict. Which rod series?

843c or 844c I meant.

it was my first choice, I was just worried about being to stiff and rip the lips off on hookset. But I think im going to do this one.

I've owned a bunch of both. Unless you plan on fishing heavier bottom contact stuff I'd go with the 843.

To me it's just a more versatile rod than the 844 which fishes pretty tight.

The 843 makes a great spinnerbait rod and even bigger topwaters as well as jigs/T rigs.

X2. I use my 843s every trip and 844 occasionally.

since I have shaula tour grades think 843 will be same as Shimano shaula, and for heavier jigs and lures I need to go with 844C.

the issue here is no one knows shaula rods, they are very common in Japan.

 https://www.plat.co.jp/shop/catalog/product_info/language/en/manufacturers_id/11/products_id/24434/shimano/world-shaula-tour-edition-1652r-4-free-shipping.html

also it is cinfusing when you read rod power, lure weight and jig weight will make you confuse. thats mine 1652r-4

I have the 844C IMX, 844C GLX and 783C GLX.  The GLX's are a little softer and more sensitive but the IMX is also pretty good.  Out of the 3 the 783 GLX is my favorite.   I find it to be more versatile and it fishes more like a Medium rod than a MH.  I use the 783 for just about anything but it's my favorite rod for jerkbaits and the 844's for topwater, bigger jigs, and 1/4 oz t-rigged plastic.

Also, I would pay attention to the lure rating and not the noted rod power.  And I would rethink the 20lb braid on a bait caster. 40lb or 50lb would be choice.

Holy moley! You go right for the gold, huh?

I was ABOUT to say “I use a 3 powered nrx for such duties...I know they’re pricy but they’re worth it” but I can see you skipped right past me haha

The 844 mbr is a mighty fine rod, though. Just about as good as it gets, depending on who you ask.

Agreed.  My 843 is a rod I never leave at home.  I use it for pitching plastics, senkos, 3.8 Keitechs- it is perfect for a 1/2 oz Dark Sleeper.  I have transferred over to Dobyns within the last few years but my 843 GLX is going nowhere.

I just also got the 844 after using the 843. The 843 really had trouble driving any single hook bait. 843 was better for light wire hooks and treble hooks although it loaded up and casted amazing. 844 is better for all around 3/8-3/4 oz baits regardless of type.

I=I was amazed how a H power rod can be light. I am going to wait for reel to arrive from Japan, I cant wait to get on water with it.

Not only is the 844 light, it's much, much stronger than it looks. Here's mine the day it was delivered last July.

844.thumb.jpg.16317dea05351e4c39aa555411b04114.jpg

The thick tube was completely broken into 2 pieces. They'd tried to tape it together with one wrap of clear tape, but failed miserably.

I'm still using the rod everytime I go out. There wasn't even a bent guide on it. :)   The first fish I caught on it was 5 pounds and I was pleasantly surprised the rod didn't snap in two or explode or do something dramatic. The dealer had told me to use it and if it broke he'd replace it. He also said he's seen the shipping companies break plastic tubes. All the companies and all types of tubes at one time or another.

I worked my way up from a Conquest 783 to an 843 to an 844 and picked up a MH spinning along the way.

I can't imagine that being the case. I have five 3 power loomis rods that have a ton of backbone and ARE jig rods.

2-IMX, 1-GLX, and 2 IMX-Pro.

WOW, That is incridable, Unless you see it. I am so glad it works for you and made me very happy about my purchase. I knew I wouldn't go wrong by getting it. Just unfortunately I am waiting for my reel to get here next week to spool up and hit the lake.

I’m guessing you have jig rods. I was referring to the mbr tapered rods.

Sorry but if you have loomis jig rods why would you use mbr rods for jigs, t-rigs, and other similar applications. You can if you want and some do but all I was saying is that they are not going to be as effective as stepping up one power or getting a faster taper. To each his own.

The MBR rods were designed to be used for jigs, t-rigs and similar applications. The JWR is a newer taper for G Loomis.

There are lots of people who prefer a fast action to an extra fast action for jigs. I agree to each his own style.
