FrankN209 Posted May 6, 2020 Posted May 6, 2020 I have 30lb PP on my reel and half way into the spool, there is one knot. Not sure how it got there, maybe a backlash. But it's too tight to untie. Will this compromise my line? Every time I cast, the knot goes through the guides. Quote
JediAmoeba Posted May 6, 2020 Posted May 6, 2020 A wind knot... a lot of times you can just pull those loose by pulling on both sides of the knot in opposite directions. 1 Quote
FrankN209 Posted May 6, 2020 Author Posted May 6, 2020 No, wasn't a wind knot. I pulled this and it just got tighter. Quote

Yeah, it gets tighter and if you pull it hard enough it will pop right out...sometimes it will break the line. It's a gamble but nothing you can do about it... Quote
mrpao Posted May 6, 2020 Posted May 6, 2020 Best bet is to replace the line. It happens alot with braid, especially the more limp 8 carrier versions. Quote
Super User Bird Posted May 6, 2020 Super User Posted May 6, 2020 Had it happen and won't tolerate an unwanted knot, cut and retie. 1 Quote

Ya - if you've filled the spool with that 30# here's what I'd do. Strip off back to the knot and cut - toss. Strip rest of line off. Put on some cheap mono as backing - Big Game is good and inexpensive (it's what I use for backing) - fill spool about 1/2 to 2/3. Tie the braid to the backing - double uni is what I use here. Fill the rest of the spool with the braid. 1 Quote

It happened quite a few times with my 8-10lb braid line. As @JediAmoebamentioned try it nothing to loose, if you plan to replace the line anyway. You don’t want any knot on your braid, more trouble, bigger knot will follow. Quote
FrankN209 Posted May 6, 2020 Author Posted May 6, 2020 Yeah, I took line out to the knot, wrapped the line around some wrenches, for grip, pulled and it snapped at the knot. I'll just replace the line. Quote
Super User NHBull Posted May 6, 2020 Super User Posted May 6, 2020 works well in windy conditions https://www.finsfishing.com/FINS-Windtamer-p/fnswtb-.htm 1 Quote
