Quarry Man Posted May 5, 2020 Posted May 5, 2020 looking for a rod to use casting to shallow heavy cover. Main use will be small frogs, buzzbaits, skipping jigs. Accuracy is the priority here, not distance. rod wise, looking at the 7'1" Heavy Tatula and the 6'10" Heavy Curado rods. Reel will be the older Tatula SV, not sure what ration, probably 7.3 instead of 8.1. line will be 40 lb braid overall the rods seem similar. What do you think? Quote
Super User Tywithay Posted May 5, 2020 Super User Posted May 5, 2020 The Tatula rods are lighter and more sensitive in my hands. The Curado rods feel good and they're quality builds, but performance was pretty underwhelming for a $150 rod, in my opinion. 1 Quote
Tizi Posted May 5, 2020 Posted May 5, 2020 Tatula for sure. They can be had for around $100 if you look around. Best bang for the buck rod IMO. I own 12 Tatula or Tatula XT rods. All of my bottom contact, specialty technique, multi-purpose rods are Tatulas, treble hook lures I use XT. 1 Quote

I handled one in store when they came out and could not put it down fast enough. I was very underwhelmed just holding the thing. It felt both very tip heavy and just heavy in the hand. I think it's just the one generation thus far. A lot of models were on clearance recently, so I'd imagine there's an update in the works. Corona may have delayed their plans. Quote
mrpao Posted May 6, 2020 Posted May 6, 2020 If you decide on shimano rods, skip the curado and go for the zodias. For only a little more, you get a much better rod. Plus you can normally find them used around $125 or so. That's if you dont mind the red accent coloring. With the new model coming out, the zodias should be on clearance soon. 1 Quote
