I was thinking about trying my hand at deep cranking this summer with 6XDs and DD22s (maybe even something a little deeper like an 8XD). I was considering a Curado 7'8" MH/Mod glass rod since I've found a place where they're on sale for $100. Would that rod work for this application? Does anyone have any experience with this rod? I'm willing to spend $200 if that's what it takes to get a good deep cranking rod, but since I don't know if it will be my cup of tea, cheaper options would be attractive.

Thanks.

I recently picked up the 7'4" Mod MH Curado and I like it so far.  It is nice rod for the money and if you can get one at $100 it's a steal.  I think the rod you are looking at is made for some big cranks and light swimbaits.

Also, I don't think these rods are glass.  They are a carbon blend. In any case, they are a quality rod.

If you are looking at the $200 range on rods though, I would look at the St. Croix Legend Glass.  To me, it's the best crankbait rod I have ever used.  Just fits the purpose perfectly.

I picked up that same rod and put an e7 on it when they first came out for nostalgia's sake, and I have to say I've been pleased with its performance (especially @$100). I primarily throw deep cranks on it but have also used it for larger Whopper Ploppers and wakebaits. If you don't need it right away odds are you'll be able to pick it up for $85 during TW's Memorial Day sale in 3 weeks.
