Super User Sam Posted May 2, 2020 Super User Posted May 2, 2020 Although you cannot make a Rat-L-Trap 100% weedless you can remove the rear hook and that will reduce your weed consumption. 1 Quote
Jaderose Posted May 2, 2020 Author Posted May 2, 2020 Wow.....it's not clickbait. It's a jig made up to replicate the Chrome/Blue back Rat-L-Trap. It's just an idea I had and my jig guy made it up for me. He forgot to add a little red so he's gonna redo it. He's also making me one in Chrome/Black. It might be silly but I have an area that I actually think it might work on bluebird days. As far as my question and answer, I was just having some fun. I didn't realize it would confuse people...lol. It's weedless because the jig itself is based on a shaky head jig. It has a screw lock, you just can't see because of all the shiny goodness. Quote

ohboyitsrobby Posted May 2, 2020 Posted May 2, 2020 So.... It's not really a rattletrap. Just a real shiny funky looking ballhead jig???? Makes sense 1 Quote

primetime Posted May 3, 2020 Posted May 3, 2020 Norman made a weedless rat l trap a few years ago, it had two double hooks on the back like the older weedless Jitterbugs... Sebile has a weedless model, it has a double hook in front instead of a treble that snugs tight to the body, Creme has a soft body mad minnow that is essentially the same design. I threw the Sebile a few times, and didn't really find it all that much weedless, plus the hook up rates suffer. Its kind of a bad idea, like the Weedless spinnerbait. Quote
BlakeMolone Posted May 3, 2020 Posted May 3, 2020 awesome looking jig that looks like it can do a lot of things. What are you gonna use for a trailer? Are you going to straight retrieve it like a hair jig? Now I want one ? A jig like that with a hair skirt and an easy shiner one the back might be money. Like an ultra finesse swim jig Quote

Are you going to straight retrieve it like a hair jig? Now I want one ? A jig like that with a hair skirt and an easy shiner one the back might be money. Like an ultra finesse swim jig I was gonna start with a Twin Tail Grub and use them mostly the same way I would use a Chrome, Blue/Black Rat-L-Trap. It seems most above can't get over the fact that I called it a rat-l-trap but obviously I was just talking about the color. I had it made for the lake I fish. There are a LOT of shallow flats that also have weed beds, stumps and laydowns. Rat-Traps are effective in these areas so long as you don't mind getting hung up on every other cast. It gets old so I decided to make a weedless jig to use LIKE a Rat-L-Trap that won't get humg up AND I can drop into those weeds and next to those stumps. I did NOT make these nor am I shill for the guy that did. If you want to know who made them (and a bunch more) for me, send me a message and I'll let you know. Here's everything he made for me. All 3/16's and 1/4 oz. All hand tied. BTW...his specialty is hair jigs. 1 Quote
papajoe222 Posted May 4, 2020 Posted May 4, 2020 The best place, IMO, to throw a Trap is in the weeds! Why would you want to make it weedless? Cast it out, start reeling and when it hangs up a little on the weeds, give it a rip to clear it from the weeds and hang on. Silly question. Quote

I also know I can let this flutter down into the weeds and then rip it out and then NOT get hung up on the submerged log that is most likely also there. I still have a box full of traps and will still use them. This i jut another tool in the arsenal. Quote
