Skeeloco Posted May 1, 2020 Posted May 1, 2020 I've decided I need to upgrade from a tackle bag to a tackle backpack, a lot because my bag is a bit heavy and causing me shoulder problems. I've researched a lot but I'm just not sure what's best to suit my needs. I'd really like one that can hold three or four 3600 size trays with plenty of storage for plastics and perhaps some smaller boxes. Quick access for pliers as well as a dedicated water bottle holder would be swell. I'm not sure how it would matter but I've read that some backpacks are not ideal for boats. I've been a bank fisherman for the majority of my life however this year I've got a boating buddy so I need something that's good for shore fishing as well as boat. Quote
FishinBuck07 Posted May 1, 2020 Posted May 1, 2020 I have the Flambeau Ritual backpack, It will hold 4 3700 trays and other stuff in the other pockets. It has a padded area where it sits on your back and the shoulder straps are padded also. Even though it can get heavy if you aren't careful it is actually quite comfortable to carry while fishing. It is well made, I have had it now for at least 4 years and haven't had anything fail on it! 1 Quote

Plopperwhopper Posted May 2, 2020 Posted May 2, 2020 In my personal opinion, you don’t need a backpack designed for fishing. I just use a pretty basic bass pro back pack. Can carry 4 3600 boxes and has side pockets for water, and pliers. All you really need. 1 Quote
Super User Fishes in trees Posted May 2, 2020 Super User Posted May 2, 2020 I'd echo the prior post. You don't need a "fishing" backpack. You need a back pack with enough room for all the stuff you want to tote. I like Jansport back packs because they have lifetime warranties, i.e. if you "wear it out" they will replace it. Over the years I've worn 2 out and they replaced them - both times I got a slight upgrade from what I had previously. Or you can get a cheap back pack from Walmart for $20 or so, wear it out and then get another one. Back in they day when I was a meat fishing, bank bound bush hippie, I didn't want to get my pack dirty, so I went to the goodwill store looking for other options. I found a giant heavy duty canvas women's beach bag. It would hold several 3700 boxes, or half a dozen 3600 boxes plus lots of other random gear. When it was full it weighed 20 -25 lbs or so. (please note, at the time I was a meat fisherman, this included crappie gear, live bait gear, catfish gear, weights & bobbers & stuff like that ). To top it all off, it was a black/neon green zebra stripe, which guaranteed that no one in their right mind would ever steal it. It was an extremely butt ugly gear bag and I was pretty proud of my $2 investment. People would ask me when I was out fishing "Is that a womens purse?" and I'd be forced to reply, "Hell no, don't you recognize a beach bag when you see one? Jesus son, your id skills are lacking." So there is an inexpensive option, to go goodwill and see what they got there. Quote
LCG Posted May 3, 2020 Posted May 3, 2020 Bass pro makes a pretty good backpack. I had one for three years and it sttod up great, sold it as I started going minimalist in respect to fishing tackle. Wind wriver makes the best backpack I hace ever seen, however it's pretty expensive, about 3 times what the bass pro backpack was. Quote
