Black Hawk Basser Posted May 1, 2020 Posted May 1, 2020 Trying to play teacher with my boy out of school. Planted a bunch of veggies this week with my boy. Watched the NFL Draft, complained a fair amount about the Eagle's decisions. Watching The Last Dance, documentary on 97-98 Chicago Bulls. Watching What We Do In The Shadows (hilarious). General yard and house improvement stuff. Installed Helix 5 on the boat - next is another transducer and mount for the kayak. Keeping the wife happy however I can. ? 2 Quote
The Bassman Posted May 1, 2020 Posted May 1, 2020 I'm back to painting 3-4 days a week where I'm not close to people. At home I mow every 4-5 days and contemplate all the chores I could be getting done. But I get over it and get back to fishing most days. 1 Quote

I like one you can test fire several times to make sure the kill mechanism will make it through the dirt without hitting rocks or clods. I tired that with the big stomp trap and couldn’t quite get it going but I have also only piddled with one for about 30 minutes. These are my money makers........ the smaller black ones are victor scissor traps, not my favorite but my coworkers like them ok. The ones on the left with maximum coils are by far my favorite but no longer made. They still make the one on the far right With the weaker spring and the small black scissor traps. 1 Quote

I have had only limited success with the Harpoon, a lot of swing & misses. BUT I would never discount the experience of a professional like yourself - Clearly my lack of varmint knowledge & experience plays a significant role. Thank you for sharing, I appreciate it. I am heading to set a few right now - I'm under attack ! A-Jay (Hi-Jack over) 1 Quote
Global Moderator TnRiver46 Posted May 5, 2020 Global Moderator Posted May 5, 2020 @A-Jay, give them heck! I vote you are still on topic as mole trapping is a wonderful quarantine activity. I think being familiar with any trap and putting them in the right spot is the key. Pro tip: a lot of people pull the harpoon straight out of the ground when it's sprung and the mole just slides off the tines and stays underground. Basically they think they missed but didn't. Always check the tines for blood, fur, or a dead smell. Also look in the soil for larvae that are eating the dead mole. I always do this because we charge per mole and I need to confirm the kill. 1 Quote

Super User J._Bricker Posted May 5, 2020 Super User Posted May 5, 2020 In week #10 of Shelter In Place, the usual piddling around the house and yard work. Recorking, sanding, then sealing with U40 of pretty much every rod handle I own. The corresponding cleaning, lubing and upgrading of every reel with Carbontex drag washers and/or bearings. Planning for the long haul, topped off the boat with gas and dumped in some marine Sta-BIL for good measure. Polished/waxed the boat a couple times and pull minor maintenance on the vehicles. Try to keep the bait monkey at bay as I look forward to getting back out on the water.. 1 Quote
Guitarfish Posted May 6, 2020 Posted May 6, 2020 I spent part of yesterday working on the Pelican Predator trailer, and the other part trying to swap out the trim and tilt on my old 70hp. Going back to real work Thursday. Quote

Guitarfish Posted May 6, 2020 Posted May 6, 2020 Well I had to buy an engine hoist to lift it, but, the pin / shaft that goes thru the center shock was frozen in. I beat on it for quite a while. Sprayed it, heated it, sprayed it, beat on it some more. Got about a 1/2" of movement. Sprayed it again, and quit for the day. It popped out this morning when I beat it out in the other direction. I figured the pin was flaring from the pounding. The replacement pin is shiny. The old one didn't have a spot that shined at all. Corroded with no evidence of grease ever. Now I have to service my power washer that Ryobi refused to warranty. Never worked, I called the first time I used it, and they B.S'd me into waiting. Long story short, I like the power washer, but I will never give them a dime for another. I am going to power wash and paint the lower unit while I have it apart. Going to hang until the weekend now. (Work). If you have the tools, the parts and the lift, I think it would be a 2 hr. job. One hour out / one hour back. 1 Quote
