Super User ChrisD46 Posted April 29, 2020 Super User Posted April 29, 2020 For those who fish a Whopper Plopper 110 , what is your current rod , reel and line set up ? Quote
Nelson Delaney Posted April 29, 2020 Posted April 29, 2020 St croix avid x 7’4” heavy. Reel varies Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted April 29, 2020 Global Moderator Posted April 29, 2020 7' M/F, 7.3:1, 20lb braid no leader. Quote
rangerjockey Posted April 29, 2020 Posted April 29, 2020 The 110 doesn't need a super stout rod. I use my walking bait rod 6ft 6 M/F 20lb. braid. Quote
browne762 Posted April 29, 2020 Posted April 29, 2020 I have been using a 7'5" MH/F Shimano Zodias with a Shimano Curado DC and 30lb Sufix 832. Quote
Super User FryDog62 Posted April 29, 2020 Super User Posted April 29, 2020 7’2” Zolo Toadface. With a Tatula Elite reel you have to make sure you have enough line and be careful not to throw it into the next County... 1 Quote

I love the 110 and 130 size. Typically I'll throw the 130s on a 4 power rod. 110 size is what I throw the most a powell 683 and lews tp 7:1. I have quickly tied one on to a 723 powell endurance, with same reel. Generally I think you can stick to a Medium rod, or even MH for the 110. The 130, start thinking about a stouter rod. Quote

I fish all 5 sizes, but that's the combo I fish the 75, 90, and 110 on. 130 I use my frog rod, 190 a swimbait rod. 1 Quote
5by3 Posted April 29, 2020 Posted April 29, 2020 7’ MH with 30 lb braid. My rod is rated fast action but is on the slower side of fast. Quote
Super User ChrisD46 Posted April 29, 2020 Author Super User Posted April 29, 2020 *Thanks for the replies on the WP 110 set up ... I have a 7' MH/F (more like a fast / moderate) spinning rod with a Daiwa 4000 size spinning reel loaded with #20 lb. Power Pro braid . I believe I'll tie the WP 110 onto straight braid with a double palomar knot and bomb this thing long over flats , transitions to deep water , etc. then reel steady obtaining the correct WP 110 sound - then hold on ! Super User Teal Posted April 29, 2020 Super User Posted April 29, 2020 4000 size reel is a bit big for my taste but that setup will do. Good luck. Quote
Sbaird091 Posted April 29, 2020 Posted April 29, 2020 Two different setups depending what I’m doing. #1 powell 755cb, 7:1 reel, 40lb braid I use this setup the most, long casts covering water. #2 kistler argon 7’ mh, 7:1 reel, 40lb braid I use this setup fishing around cover doing more target fishing in tighter areas. dsw1204 Posted April 29, 2020 Posted April 29, 2020 I love The Plopper 110. It is my favorite size. Next favorite is 75, but, I only use one rod for my ploppers. I found a really good quality, but very inexpensive rod. It's a Cadence CR5 MH/F spinning rod paired and it's paired with a Shimano Ultegra 4000XG spinning reel. The rod's max lure weight is 1oz, which is what the Plopper 110 weighs, so I cannot go any bigger with them. The line I usually use is the Power Pro Spectra Fiber Braided Fishing Line, but I just recently purchased the Power Pro Maxcuratro braided line 40lb test. It's supposed to be 25% thinner, so I am guessing it's thickness is a little more than the 20lb stuff I am using currently. Haven't used it, yet. Quote
Super User MN Fisher Posted April 29, 2020 Super User Posted April 29, 2020 My fave is a 90, but I also toss 110s occasionally. Both sizes on a 7'0" Aird-X MH/F; last year President with 20# Power Pro, this year Supreme with 30# Power Pro. Quote
Plopperwhopper Posted April 30, 2020 Posted April 30, 2020 I’ve been throwing them on a dobyns fury 735, lews superduty g with 50 lb braid. Probably overkill, I’d throw it on a 7’ MH all day long too. Quote
Super User FishTank Posted April 30, 2020 Super User Posted April 30, 2020 G. Loomis IMX 844C and a Shimano Curado with 40 or 50lb braid. Quote
