Havock Posted April 29, 2020 Posted April 29, 2020 I'm looking to purchase line for a couple of identical spinning rod setups for crankbaits between 1/4 - 1/2 oz. The rods in question are 6'6" Moderate Fast Fenwick's, and the water here is crystal clear (if that matters). These are the lines/diameters I was considering: Yo-zuri Hybrid Ultra Soft #6 / Mist Green / .10 in. | .263mm diameter Sunline Shooter Defier Armilo 11lb / Grey / .108 in. | .274 mm diameter Any opinons/suggestions are welcome! I would say no to both. I use to use Ultra Soft and I liked it for years but all of sudden the current version started to break easily. I tried multiple spools for a few years and decided to give up. I just started using Defier Armilo and it is a stiffer line, IMHO. Regular Defier, though, is awesome. Soft line that casts a mile. I have been using 13lb and 17lb on casting gear and love it for crankbaits. On spinning gear though, I like Trilene XL 100% FC 6lb. Quote
Super User FryDog62 Posted April 29, 2020 Super User Posted April 29, 2020 I’m not a fan of the Ultra Soft but really do like the Hybrid. I think either Yo-Zuri Hybrid in similar diameter or Sufix Advance Mono would work very well. Quote
Super User Tywithay Posted April 29, 2020 Super User Posted April 29, 2020 I think both are too thick to really enjoy on a spinning reel, but I'd go with armilo out of the two. Quote
Super User MN Fisher Posted April 29, 2020 Super User Posted April 29, 2020 I have one of my spinning rigs set up for cranks and have Yo-Zuri Hybrid on it. Long as you use a good line conditioner (KVD is my choice) it's very manageable and I don't have issues. Quote
mc6524 Posted April 29, 2020 Posted April 29, 2020 I would suggest you abandon mono all together. I would go with fluro and I’m personally impressed and have used Yozuri topknot fluro. Quote
craww Posted April 29, 2020 Posted April 29, 2020 Of the two- the Yozuri. I used to use the #6 ultra soft for small shallow cranks in streams and rivers...it was pretty good line... ideally (as Fishtank already mentioned) the regular defier is much, much better however. Expensive, but just a joy to use. Quote

I found one place that still has some - but only in 12# - so if you want it, get it now before it's all gone. https://fishsoutheastern.com/products/yo-zuri-fishing-line-600-yard-10-lb?variant=13518670856236 Quote
Super User dodgeguy Posted April 30, 2020 Super User Posted April 30, 2020 I love Sufix Advance Mono but wouldn't use it on a spinning reel. I would use Sufix elite mono . Quote
