Branko Cetinjanin Posted April 28, 2020 Posted April 28, 2020 Looking to buy a new Fenwick rod. Was using the chooser they have on their site and this is what it came up with: HMZ - 6'6 MHF 6'6 MF 7' MH HMG - 6'6 MHF 7' MF I predominantly fish lakes in Ontario Canada and go for Bass, Pike and Walleye. If you were to choose one of these rods to use for an all arounder for the above type of fishing, which one would it be ? Thx and best wishes. Quote
Super User Tywithay Posted April 28, 2020 Super User Posted April 28, 2020 Probably the 7' MF HMG. That's a good all-around rod. They're solid and well built. They fish pretty similar to the St Croix Premier in the same power, in my experience; a little stronger than the rating, compared to some manufacturers. 1 Quote
Branko Cetinjanin Posted April 28, 2020 Author Posted April 28, 2020 Oh and if you can recommend a good all around reel to go with this rod would be great. Was looking at Daiwa BG's, Pfleuger president, Shimano sedona/sienna .... Quote
Super User Tywithay Posted April 28, 2020 Super User Posted April 28, 2020 I will never not recommend the Daiwa BG Quote
Branko Cetinjanin Posted April 28, 2020 Author Posted April 28, 2020 Model number ? 2500, 3000 ... etc ... what would work for what i'm doing. Thx again. Quote
Super User Tywithay Posted April 28, 2020 Super User Posted April 28, 2020 The 2500 on the 7' MF rod would cover pretty much everything you'd ever need to get started. Quote
Kdizzle Posted April 28, 2020 Posted April 28, 2020 I have 4 HMG's. All Medium powered 2 6'6''s 1 6'0, and 1 7'. They're all very sensitive and sturdy rods. The only thing I would complain about is that the epoxy on the first guide tends to crack after about a year. Quote
Super User Fishes in trees Posted April 28, 2020 Super User Posted April 28, 2020 I believe that Fenwick puts some kind of lifetime warranty of the HMG line, but not on the HMZ, but I'm not sure. I have several Fenwick HMG rods in various denominations and I don't have any issues with any of them. Every time I've broke a Fenwick Rod ( upper end ones, HMG, AETOS ) Fenwick has replaced them for free. Quote
