I know my cork handles are all 14" and I mark 18" & 22" on the rod itself. What makes anyone think a bass laying on wet shoreline is harmful measuring it? It's ok to bounce bass onto dry carpet flopping around but not on wet surfaces carefully handling the fish....you got to be out of your mind. Tom Quote

ETA: I'm not questioning your reasoning. I typically try to get them back in ASAP and getting the length, is easy work. Girth is a bit more involved. Edited April 29, 2020 by Armtx77 Quote
Super User WRB Posted April 29, 2020 Super User Posted April 29, 2020 Having measured lots of big bass simply lay a wet towel on the deck, close the bass mouth measure the length to center of tail and around girth dorsal fin down. Takes maybe 30 - 45 seconds including photo. Today bump boards have length scale, for boats. Hope you better your PB soon. Tom Quote

Example; 22" bass with 17" girth, IGFA = 22 X 17 x 17 / 800 = 7.95 lbs. L X L X G / 1200 = 6.85 lbs. when you apply the IGFA to known world record bass catches it's by more them 5 lbs. Perry bass reported to be 32" L, 26" G, IGFA = 27 lbs L X L X G / 1200 = 22.19 lbs. I know you will like the heavier weights but it's not close to being accurate. Tom Quote
txchaser Posted May 4, 2020 Posted May 4, 2020 Your hand is in roughly the same plane. Measure your knuckles and you have a good start. Or, print out that photo at life-sized for you, and then measure the fish Quote
Super User soflabasser Posted June 17, 2020 Super User Posted June 17, 2020 I have caught several trophy fish of many species and do not have a single mount on the wall since I prefer having photos in my photo albums. I would consider having a replica mount made but I will make sure to do lots of research to find a highly talented artist to make my replica mount. Have seen some terrible replica mounts and skin mounts that I would not even put on my wall if they gave it for free. 1 Quote

Super User gim Posted June 24, 2020 Super User Posted June 24, 2020 I’m considering getting a graphite replica of a tiger muskie I recently caught and the cost is almost giving me a stroke. Quote
