A suggestion for those who love the big screen but are stuck at home right now...

Sit three feet from the TV, put on your favorite movie (see ours), get some popcorn and you won't know the difference. Sit even closer if you're one of those  who are fans of sitting in the front row at the theater.

I thought this bit of wisdom might be of use to those who are social distancing.

Probably not. Drive-ins, like today’s movie theaters, make all of their profits from the concession stand. They could let people stay in their cars, but the hot dog/popcorn stand would probably have to stay closed.

Actually - there's talk here in MN to letting the drive-ins (we have six across the state) re-open with the provision that people bring their own drinks/snacks and remain in their cars for the duration of the film.

We’re currently enjoying one of our favorite Amazon Prime series, season 6 of “Bosch” after polishing off season 3 of “Ozark” on Netflix. After all, isn’t this why we bought those big TVs since we can’t go to the theater with the recliners or watch sports.

 

As for the drive-in idea, which I kinda like, they reopened one after the initial SIP order. It lasted about 3 days before it was closed back up...

there are a few drive-in’s still in operation here in western NC. in fact, they’re being used for church service’s and are being considered for virtual high school graduations.

There's one in Stephen's City, VA opening this weekend, for those of you that live in Front Royal/Winchester area (or are willing to make the drive).  One of my wife's friends texted and asked if we want to go (we're not).

There's a free drive-in that a church and the county recreation department puts on several times a summer.  It's nice, and the price is right (free).  For me the draw of the drive-in is gone, since there's no chance of making out in the back of the old Chevelle (really wasn't a lot of chance back in the day either).

With other theaters closed and people itching to get out someplace... can you even imagine getting a spot in one unless you form the line a few hours earlier?

And then... all major movies have been moved off until this fall and many may be moved to a later date than that so we'd be seeing older ones that are probably already or getting ready to go on streaming. Still I'd probably do it just to sit someplace else and eat popcorn.

Once they  put them in the theaters then a short time later they go to streaming. If they don't do well first in the theater then it's a lost opportunity to recoup the millions put into it to get it made. It's not a new concept for many of them. Many movies are often deferred a year or more to avoid multiple blockbusters at the same time.

Now is the perfect time to get a big 65-75” 4K TV and watch movies, netflix or Disney+ the prices are way down and the technology is way better. I’m currently in season two of Ozark, but have also picked up quite a few new movies on Blu-Ray from the RedBox kiosks.

Me and my dad have been working for my budys dad and they were throwing alot of things away including a projector, a screen for the projector, and a new dvd player! So we have are own theater now.
