Bandersnatch Posted April 27, 2020 Posted April 27, 2020 This may get moved but it's certainly tied to fishing line. Does anyone else get cuts in their fingers from clinching down braid to leader knots? Specifically I am talking the Alberto but if seems like a constant issue. Maybe using sun gloves would help. Does anyone else have this problem? 1 Quote
Steveo-1969 Posted April 27, 2020 Posted April 27, 2020 Nope, though I use a uni to uni for braid to leader knots. Sometimes I cut my fingers on braid when I'm snagged and trying to get it out with the "bow and arrow" trick. Not often but it happens, especially with very thin braid. When I'm wearing sun gloves I don't cut myself (I like Fish Monkey gloves). Quote
OilfieldCowboy Posted April 27, 2020 Posted April 27, 2020 I wrap the braid around something other than my finger when tightening. Last night I used the smooth shank of a 3/8 bolt when tightening down Alberto knots on 10lb 832. I usually have a pair of pliers or a chunk of dowel in my tackle box to use when tensioning knots or breaking off braid while in the field, don't want to cut my arms up like I have in the past salmon fishing. 1 Quote

Super User J Francho Posted April 27, 2020 Super User Posted April 27, 2020 Don't use your fingers, or any other body part, to cinch knots. 1 Quote

Super User jbsoonerfan Posted April 27, 2020 Super User Posted April 27, 2020 I bought one of those rings from TW (Daiichi Seiko Finger Saver)that has grooves on it to use. Worked great, "worked" as in past tense since I seem to have lost it. 1 Quote
Super User ATA Posted April 27, 2020 Super User Posted April 27, 2020 I just got cut when casting baitfish and I forgot to wear protection, for knots I am using the ring I got about $8 from TW. 1 1 Quote

Super User JustJames Posted April 27, 2020 Super User Posted April 27, 2020 There are tool sold for that. or you do it yourself with 3/4” wood dowel plus this https://www.amazon.com/Greatfishing-Fishing-Bulding-Waterproof-Insulation/dp/B07H812BW4/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?dchild=1&keywords=rod+handle+wrap&qid=1588025324&sr=8-2 And yes I got cut with braid multiple times either trying to pull leader knot or un snag my lures. waymont Posted April 27, 2020 Posted April 27, 2020 I use these gadgets. Someone else mentioned it too. I tie FG knots, and this is a necessary tool. I can get my knots super tight and never cut my self. https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Daiichi_Seiko_Finger_Saver_Knot_Tying_Tool/descpage-DSFSK.html 1 Quote

A couple of small wooden dowels also work . Quote
Bandersnatch Posted April 28, 2020 Author Posted April 28, 2020 I just realized clinching down Alberto knots with my bare fingers is probably why I have random failures. I can only cinch down until it bleeds.... Quote
