Any ideas on conducting  a safe club tournament during this pandemic?

Do it like kayak tourneys. Go by total length using measuring boards. And I'd tags given out the day of the tourney.

Guys do not congregate at blast off by the ramp.

Get in boats and head out to a starting area away from the ramp.

Blast off.

At weigh-in, only one guy from the boat takes fish to weigh station that is manned by two guys at the maximum.

Then you can trailer your boat, parking it away from the weigh-in and ramp area, and either wait for the results or go home and get the results emailed to you if you are not in the money.

I think a little common sense will take care of all the issues around the ramp and weight in.  I don’t think social distancing on the boat is possible.  I got an email about a tournament that is being held in a few weeks where they gave guidelines for on the boat safely.  For example,  they required two nets so both anglers won’t touch the same one.  I can’t imagine how you could fish with someone infected for eight hours without being exposed unless you both wore hazmat suits.  If you select your own partner then you control your own risk.  Draw tournaments are different.  Personally,  I’m not sure I would want to spend eight hours fishing with a twenty year old that works at Walmart.

Depends on the rules in your state, they are all a bit different right now.

Here in MD, the MD DNR revoked all tournament permits since recreational and/or C&R fishing is actually illegal in MD under the Governors orders.  People can still fish as long as it's for food, but tournaments are a no-go until things relax a bit (looks like June for us).

Before things locked down here our club was preparing to hold tournaments while doing the social distance stuff....It was going to be a de-centralized launch and catch-weigh-photo-release.  Weigh in results were going to be by conference call in the parking lot (while we were in our trucks).  It would have been a little different but we could have managed.

Even though most states still allow fishing, I think an organized tournament would probably ruffle some feathers with authorities...So whatever you do, tread lightly.

I had no idea the governor of Maryland banned catch and release fishing.

The Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries allows fishing while the Corps of Engineers has cancelled all Buggs Island tournaments until further notice.

I can fish any lakes or rivers by myself or with a nonboater and be legal in Virginia.

B.A.S.S. has mandated that all B.A.S.S. affiliated state federations and individual bass clubs do no tournament fishing until further notice. I would think the FLW has done the same thing.

Thanks for letting us know what is going on in Maryland. Appreciate the inforamation.

Paper tourney. Everyone texts in ther final weight. Trailer tourney with text message to confirm take off time. Just a couple things that come to mind. But like @Logan S some started have banned it all together. Good luck!!!

Wait until after it's over because you aren't going to be able to host a fair and honest event right now.

In my areas it seems business as usual, tourneys on both Sat and Sun

I saw a couple of jet skiers, they start to show up around 60 degree water temps just like the mosquitoes

There are a few pretty big plants close and all those guys seem to be at the lake all week

It might be busier at the boat ramp near me now than it was before.

I'll update with a total number at lunchtime on a Monday.

My guess is no less than 25-30 trailers in the parking lot

***** there were 28 trailers in the parking lot, some were pontoons****

I saw a guy water skiing a few days before Christmas in a Santa hat. We get jet skis year round on Loudon

If restrictions are still in place when NY's tournament season opens on the 3rd Saturday in June. I will still run events but they will be QUITE different.

#1 Sign ups on line, entry fees, and prizes paid out via paypal.

#2 Invite ONLY. Can not have open tournaments with un-known, not yet proven to be trustworthy anglers because of the #3 stipulation

#3 Anglers will catch, weigh, record, using MLF's Scoretracker app.

The only contact tournament day will be me checking everyone's personal scale against a known check weight.
