Im getting a modified V 14ft alumacraft jon boat and was trying to plan out the seats. Im goin to eventually put a front deck on boat also. Just curious on how i go by installing the base?? Is it good idea to just mount base to aluminum bench seat?? whats best mounting method to where seat will be sturdy and wont come unmounted?

Thanks!

You could probably go ahead and mount it to the aluminum bench seat and build your deck around that when you are ready.  Wouldn't ever have to move it that way. Plus it would probably give it more stability there. There are many types of mounts / seats available, I would just do what suits you best.

what could i use to make the hole for base mount?? and what to use to mount it bc i wont have access to underside of mount / bench seat to put a nut on bolt so dont pull through. Do i use some kinda screw?? i dont want the screws/bolt or whatever i use to pull out when setting the hook on a nice one lol  ;D

Here's what I did.  I used 3/4 in exterior plywood cut to the same size an my factory benches.  I then  applied a good dose of construction adhesive between the plywood and the benches.  I then laid out a grid like a checkerboard, and set stainless steel screws through the plywood into the factory bench about three inches apart.  I then fastened the seat pedistals to the plywood using the fattest screws I could find insuring that they pierced the factory benches too.  All holes were pre-drilled pilot holes.  This is a 14 ft JohnBoat with a 6hp only.  I weigh 200lbs, and the majority of the people I have taken with me out weigh me, and the seats haven't budged in ten years.  If I ever put on a larger motor, which I seriously doubt I'll do, I'll take another look at this particular part of my setup.

Some bottom plates are designed to stick down into the floor/aluminum seat thus mounting flush across the top.  Just flip the plate over were it mounts flush against the floor/aluminum seat and then sticks up.  Then just stick the pedestal in that.  That is what I did on my jon boat.  Works like a charm.

Matt 5.0 Great Idea

It was buddy Ricks boat, all his plan. The plates that slide under are made of Delrin. The holes are tapped and threaded. It worked out perfectly.

I set mine on my Tracker 1436 right on the bench and set it with 6 VERY heavy duty toggle bolts. Then filled in under the plate with some permenent marine adhesive for extra measure. That thing have been under heavy use for about 8 months and does not budge.
