I am new to fishing and picked up some 5" watermelon/black flake senkos and some 2/0 EWG hooks. When I texas rig it and a fish bites it the hook doesn't leave the senko and go into the fishes mouth on the hookset. Is there anything that I am doing wrong?

Are you burying the hook point deep in the worm? The way to rig is to just 'skin' the point - barely under the plastic.

I was going to ask the same thing, bring hook point all the way out and then just barely go in to surface of lure.  2/0 will work but you can also go up in size to a 3/0 ewg.

If those things arent the cause, it could be fish just barely moving it off the bed.  Thst happens some this time of year.  But I would def check my rigging.

If you are getting bit but not getting the hook stuck, try wacky rigging the senko.  That should increase the hook up ratio.

Welcome aboard!

Definitely spend some time reading @roadwarrior's link above.

Really helpful information there on all things Senko.

You can "wacky" rig the senko with the 2/0 EWG too. When I first learned of the wacky senko a few years ago, that was the smallest hook I had and it worked out OK.

X2.

And look up "Wacky Rig Senkos" to see how to fish the Senko wacky style.

You can also go to the electrical department in your local hardware store and get some 3/8 inch Gardner Bender Heat Shrink polyolefin heat shrink tubes in a package of three.

Cut the strips into small 1/8 to 1/4 size and put them in the middle of the Senko so the Senko flutters like a butterfly.

Put the tail ends on a table with the rest of the Senko off from the table and the tape is where you can place your multi-purpose bar-b-q lighter under it without setting the table on fire.

Heat the tape strip while turning the Senko so the entire strip squeezes against the sides.

Slide your #1 or 1/0 (weedless if possible) hook between the tape and Senko's skin and you are ready to fish it wacky style and preserve the Senko for a lot of catches.

You may have to heat the tape during the day. Make sure you don't burn the Senko when you do this. You may want to use some MegaStrike as a scent on your Senkos, too.

I do an entire pack when I go fishing so they are ready to be used when necessary.

Give the wacky rig a try and I think you will like it.

I like to throw a lil whiplash into my hook sets lol.

Dont be afraid to use 4/0 with the 5".

Smearing a lil smell'm on your Senko don't hurt none.

Set you up a Senko only combo-spinning reel-high vis braid-leader

I generally use a 3/0 or 4/0 hook on tx rigged 5" stick baits.   I don't tx rig senkos because (a) they are pretty fragile and I only get one fish per bait using senkos and (b) I think that there are lots of 5" stick baits that are tougher plastic and work just as well when tx rigged.

When the subject is wacky rigged stick baits I believe that senkos out perform all the other brands by a bunch.   I use o-rings to attach the hook to the bait and I often get 3 or 4 or 5 fish per bait.

Yeah, thats probably the problem. When I skin hook the senko, do I make the hook go all the way through and out the other the side, or skin hook it on the first side?

No matter what kind of plastic - if you're using off-set or EWG hooks...this is what it should look like.

Notice the hook point just barely buried in the plastic.

Skin hook it so that the hook's point is back under the skin.

*3/0 EWG or 4/0 EWG hook (depending on make) , then skin hooked = problem solved as long as it is bass biting the senko .

Maybe you buried the hook point back into the worm/ senkos body to much. Hook point should barely be covered by the plastic, enough to not get snagged on things with out making it difficult to set the hook when the fish bites.
