Super User MN Fisher Posted April 24, 2020 Super User Posted April 24, 2020 I know we just had this topic not long ago - so again. I use a 7' Medium-Heavy/Fast rod for spinners/chatters/buzzbaits. Also jigs and T-Rigs. What brand/model depends on your personal preference and how much you're willing to spend on it. 1 Quote
Super User MN Fisher Posted April 24, 2020 Super User Posted April 24, 2020 Take your pick - Diawa, Dobyns, St Croix, Abu, Shimano, Quantum, etc...the list is endless. Models ranging from $50 to $500. Quote
Cgrinder Posted April 24, 2020 Posted April 24, 2020 Conquest MBR 843 of course. You work hard. You deserve it. Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted April 24, 2020 Posted April 24, 2020 I don’t find them particularly technique specific. A good worm/jig rod works fine. If you get short strikes it’s not rod action. Look at retrieve, trailer, profile, color. If they want it they’ll get it. 2 Quote
wordty Posted April 24, 2020 Posted April 24, 2020 I use a 7 foot MH BPS Crankin' Stick for a spinnerbait / chatterbait rod (and use the same rod in a M for cranks) Quote
Super User FishTank Posted April 24, 2020 Super User Posted April 24, 2020 I kind of like the G. Loomis 853C NRX but it's overkill. Also, I like the 783C GLX and 844C GLX if I use a trailer. Both of these rods will do just about anything. Quote
Super User FryDog62 Posted April 24, 2020 Super User Posted April 24, 2020 You’ll have to make a choice between either glass or graphite. I myself prefer graphite, but then you need a Moderate/Fast taper so you don’t rip the hooks out of said fish’s mouth. I use a 7’2” MH iRod Stone Cold vibrating jig rod. $150 Quote

Super User MassYak85 Posted April 24, 2020 Super User Posted April 24, 2020 I like a mod-fast action medium heavy for mine. Length will depend what your doing and preference. Long casts over flats you might go to a 7'6, shorter target casting to cover maybe down to 7 feet. I'm usually fishing around cover so I'm using a Tatula 7'2" MH Regular (mod fast). 2 Quote
rangerjockey Posted April 24, 2020 Posted April 24, 2020 Depending on your budget, The Witch Doctor Surman 50 G is really good for blade baits or really most moving baits . Quote
walleyecrazy Posted April 24, 2020 Posted April 24, 2020 I recently grabbed a Dobyns Sierra 734c to use for just this purpose. I’ve had it out about 4-5 times so far, and I think it is about perfect for throwing chatterbaits. Quote

It never seemed to be mentioned with spinner bait set ups but for some reason having a MH / Moderate action rod is THE in thing to have now for a chatter bait rod ! I can take a 7' MH / F rod but have multiple reels with braid main line on one and mono - co-poly on the other and have an entirely different set up . If delay is a a requirement I believe a 7' MH / Fast rod with Stren original #14 lb. mono , Berkley Trilene #14 lb. , Big game #15 lb. will work well ... For less delay I can use #30 lb.. Power Pro braid and take advantage of less stretch as required . 1 Quote
Cityangler7 Posted April 24, 2020 Posted April 24, 2020 I use a Dobyns Champion XP 703c for chatter baits and square bills and really like it. Quote
Pogues2300 Posted April 24, 2020 Posted April 24, 2020 Only used it a few times but I bought a poison adrena 7'3" reg. Fast and I love it. That slightly softer tip feels better to me than the 7'2" mh fast expride I was using before for single hook moving baits. Quote
Gazz Posted April 24, 2020 Posted April 24, 2020 I’ve been using my Lew’s 7’ MH/F TP1 Black for chatterbaits/spinnerbaits and it feels great. I feel every little movement through the blank. I think it fishes above the $130 price tag. Quote
Dens228 Posted April 25, 2020 Posted April 25, 2020 I'm using a MegaBass Orochi XX Diablo Spec R, worked great today! 1 Quote

Probably just pitch and roll cast jigs into a bucket in my back yard. Quote
Basseditor Posted April 25, 2020 Posted April 25, 2020 For chatter baits, I use a Kistler Rods Feel N Reel. It’s graphite with glass section on the top third or so. The action is a medium heavy. Quote

Sunny and no wind I don't use a chatter, I go to a swim jig/paddletail. Quote

Luckily for me my lake is in my backyard and there’s nobody telling me I can’t go out there. 1 Quote
Tizi Posted April 25, 2020 Posted April 25, 2020 TW has the Daiwa DX 7’3” Heavy on sale today:$89.99. If I didn’t already have a rod for this application, I wouldn’t hesitate to get it for that price. Quote
jprice Posted April 25, 2020 Posted April 25, 2020 I’ve been using the megabass daemos and it’s worked great for me. It’s a beautiful rod and very sensitive. Quote
