I got together an order on Academy's website. When I clocked PLACE ORDER I got the message that all of it was out of stock. ALL OF IT. So I did it all again. Same message. Looks like, if this thing doesn't lighten up soon, we'll all be fishing with our old reserve stockpiles. I think I'll troll eBay for some Zoom Speed Worms.

That happened to me a few weeks ago. I ordered about 6 plugs and two cases of shotgun ammo. Everything was in stock when I added the items to the cart but when I hit the order button everything was out of stock.

I went back and tried to add the items to my cart and this time everything was out of stock.

Placed an order with TW and it was shipped the next day. Still haven't received it yet. The problem is UPS. Just awful to deal with. The website is way too complicated and the call centre which is located in "Asia  Pacific" took 45 minutes to get a human being which I had a hell of time understanding. In the end I found out it's sitting in the warehouse here in town since last Thursday.

I ordered a rod here in Canada from a Canadian retailer which was sent through Canada Post. Didn't recieve a delivery notice which I've always had in the past. In the end the rod was sitting at the PO for 2 weeks.

I've been ordering fishing tackle for 30 years from the US, Canada and Japan. The last few years it's been very expensive for shipping especially through UPS and FedEx. Shipping charges when I order and more charges when it's delivered. The most effecient way seems through USPS when ordering in the US.

I get it, the delivery as of late because of Covid 19 but this has been progressively more of a problem the last few years.

I'm getting to the point where I'm actually dreading ordering tackle and it was like waiting for Santa but now Santa doesn't show up on time and makes excuses and the cookies are getting too expensive.

Anyways, I hope everyone is staying safe. :smile1:

I had never bought from them but I just placed an order because of all the good things I've heard. The confirmation e-mail said it'll ship on 5/18. I understand this virus thing has caused problems for everybody and I can wait a bit. There was a couple items that were out of stock so I placed a little order with BPS also.

Oh well...the weather and the fishing has been lousy here anyway. I pulled the boat to a local lake yesterday only to decide the wind was way to strong for me. I just turned around and drove home.

This is why I live near tackle stores. I still don’t think I’ve ever purchased anything fishing related online

A good 80%+ of all my gear was bought online - even my canoe was purchased through Amazon.

Then you probably have not had access to a lot of items and have spent considerably more than you needed to

I'm not being argumentative but it's true that I might spend more at the local tackle shop. I truly don't mind because I do my best to buy local. It's important to me simply because as time has moved on small(ish) rural communities are slowly dieing and this is my home.

I will never pass judgement on how or where others spend their money . I will though do whatever I can to support my town. In return they will order whatever I need and if I need a rush order they will do their very best to get it to me. These are just my thoughts and only apply to me.

If shopping local means I help keep a local tackle shop in business, jobs intact, and have a source of the latest fishing info on lakes and rivers near me, then I haven't overspent a dime.

I spend almost all my money at the local shop.  Nothing beats great conversation and a rapport with the owners.

I placed an order with TW this past Friday, everything I ordered is on stock.  I got a shipping notice.......it's scheduled to ship, not get here, ship, this coming Friday.   It is what it is.

I've found that paying the extra $5 for two day gets it out of the warehouse faster.

I ALWAYS prefer to walk in, see what I'm buying and then have it immediately. I wish we had a "local shop". The brick/mortar that I've used the most for the past several years isn't a "tackle" store at all but a Big-R. Their fishing department was fair but now they have a new name and the fishing department is going down hill.

There's one decent little tackle store 25 - 30 miles away. Still the stock on some things is pretty limited and I often drive all the way there and can't get what I was looking for. That eats up almost half the day.

I recently heard of another in that same area that I intend to check out...maybe when the virus eases up.

I have a good one that's about an hour away. I've only been there once.

Sadly, most of my stubborn efforts to buy fishing tackle in brick/mortar result in a large very frustrating and fairly expensive (travel) waste of time...then I go home and buy on-line.

There are probably 10-12 small shops plus academy sports, bass pro, Dicks sporting goods and wal mart. I can find enough to catch a bass. Sometimes the smaller stores have a lot of old school and homemade or custom painted lures you may not find online. My buddy’s grandfather also frequently walks into Simmons in Bessemer, AL and will pick us up anything we need. If you guys have never traded at this store, you need to! Maybe the best fishing store in the US. They sell on eBay too, according to my friends the prices can’t be beat

I made a order on 5/2 and it shipped yesterday. It is going to be short a couple of 300yd spools of 832 (Coastal Camo)and 1 pack of 1/16OZ 3/0 EWG hooks.

I didnt "need" any of it, but found it odd that they were short those two items.

I was going to order a couple of spools of Sufix also, out of stock so I didn't.

TW says it will come in later in the month.

Good point.  I just wish I had a local tackle shop here in Indianapolis.

You haven't placed an order recently then. That $5 for 2 day is now $16.

Let me FIRST say I certainly understand the situation TW is under. Trouble getting items from vendors and they are supposedly down to a small crew there in house. However, today I learned of the "policy" they are following right now and it is upsetting me. I placed an order back in early December and there were 3 items that were not in stock at the time. I've been watching the status of them on their website to see when items were back in stock. 2 of the items came back pretty quickly but 1 took quite a while and I remained patient. Well, the last item came in a bit over 2 weeks ago. With everything going on I wasn't going to be "that guy" and demand my stuff now so I waited. After 2 weeks, though, I emailed them yesterday just to get an idea what was going on. They acknowledged all my items were now in stock BUT they said VERY few back orders are being sent out daily but that they are doing their best to send out new orders ASAP. Does this seem right to you? I took that as "we already have your money for old orders but because we want to get new money from new orders those orders/customers will get priority." Am I reading this situation correctly and am I right to be a bit upset? I would assume customers with new orders would naturally understand and expect it to take a hair longer than usual. But I think this is ridiculous for them to prioritize new orders over old that are ready to go and not just because I am a person that has an order as such. Am I wrong here?

Should be first in, first out if you ask me.  Although I'm sure there is some incentive to get out recently placed orders which have all the items in stock too.  If they are indeed operating under a skeleton crew, I have to imagine all orders have a reasonable chance at delay.

Again, I am cool waiting another 2 weeks if I have to. I am not sitting here demanding my stuff. I am just NOT cool with being told orders placed now get higher priority. That is BS and like you said should not be that way.
