Chase Birdsall Posted April 23, 2020 Posted April 23, 2020 Hello im going to get a new flipping and pitchiching setup and im wondering what are your favorite. Gear ratios? Rod length power and action. What setup it is. Im in the price range from 100-200$ about. a little more cant hurt. Quote
Super User MN Fisher Posted April 23, 2020 Super User Posted April 23, 2020 My current flip/pitch rig? Diawa Fuego CT-XS on a Diawa Aird-X 7' Heavy/Fast Only thing I'd update would be the rod to a Dobyns Fury 735C as I use the heavy rig for other things as well. If I wanted a dedicated flip/pitch rod - Fury 765Flip. Quote
Tizi Posted April 23, 2020 Posted April 23, 2020 I am current using a Daiwa Tatula XT 7'6" Heavy/Fast with Daiwa Fuego CT 8.3:1. Less than $175. 1 Quote
jbjordan Posted April 23, 2020 Posted April 23, 2020 I use a Lews 6.4.1 gear ration on a Bass Pro 7'4" heavy Action with 40lbs Kast King Braid. The entire package is less than $120.00 3 Quote
Super User scaleface Posted April 23, 2020 Super User Posted April 23, 2020 The rod is a 7 foot MH Lady Guide series from Gander Mountain with about three inches hacked off the handle , so now its about 6'9".The reel is a Quantum Kinetic PT spooled with 17 lb Trilene XL clear blue fluorescent . I traded for the reel and picked up the rod on clearance for twenty dollars .They are matching colors , purple . Quote
TriStateBassin106 Posted April 23, 2020 Posted April 23, 2020 7'3 MH 7:3:1 Gear ratio low profile reel. it covers most situations from Pitching/flipping Jigging and T rigging. 1 Quote

Hook2Jaw Posted April 23, 2020 Posted April 23, 2020 Daiwa Tatula 100 7.3:1 spooled up with 50# Berkley X9 on a Daiwa Tatula XT 7'6" Heavy Fast. I use it for dragging jigs and Carolina rigs as well, and it's not bad for dragging them. Shaking them can get to be a chore over a few hours. I would say it's an awesome rod to flip and pitch with. I've drug several nice fish over flooded bushes with it. Quote
PourMyOwn Posted April 23, 2020 Posted April 23, 2020 8.1:1 Fuego CT on a Lew's Carbon Fire Heavy fast 7'3". 17 lb Copoly until the pads grow up in June, then I go to 50 lb braid. 1 Quote
Super User Boomstick Posted April 23, 2020 Super User Posted April 23, 2020 I have been using the 7'1' Daiwa Tatula H/F "Jig" rod so far. Now that I own a kayak, I may look at getting something a little longer for better distance in the more distant future, but that is a solid rod for a 7'1". That is paired with either a Tatula CT with 65lb braid or a Tatula SV with 17lb flurocarbon depending where I am fishing. Having a boat changes the game, I can store longer rods that don't fit in my rack inside the hull, and it also changes where I'm flipping or pitching -- instead of alongside a rock wall on a causeway, I'll be hitting targets under docks, in weeds etc 1 Quote
Super User Tywithay Posted April 24, 2020 Super User Posted April 24, 2020 7'6" Heavy Curado with an 8.1 Tatula SV Think all told I have about $250 in it. 1 Quote
Smalls Posted April 24, 2020 Posted April 24, 2020 I'm using a Powell Endurance 775 with a Curado K for stuff over 1/2 oz and an iRod Fiber 704 with an SLX XT for lighter stuff. That iRod combo is my favorite setup right now. I have a hard time putting it down. 1 Quote
Ogandrews Posted April 24, 2020 Posted April 24, 2020 For really light stuff I use a dobyns Sierra 733 with a curado k 40lbs braid to 12-20lbs leader, for medium stuff I use a dobyns Sierra 735c with a curado k 65lbs braid to 20-25lbs leader, and for really heavy flipping and for punching I use a st croix mojo bass 7’10” heavy with a tranx 300 65lbs braid straight. Technically it’s a swimbait rod but it’s more of a finesse musky rod/ super heavy flipping stick rated up to 4oz. That rod has some serious horsepower with a tranx 300. I have also used a more moderate lighter swimbait rod with a tranx 200 65lbs braid and that worked well too, kept fish pinned well. Quote

Super vesratile. Great light jig setup or even small single hook paddle tail swimmers. Great frog setup. Last night I was throwing a Beast Coast Miyagi rigged on an Owner Beast 6/0 Hook and caught 'em good. This rod's a real sleeper and a super steal at $49-$59 on sale. I find myself using it a lot with either the Fuego CT or the Plfueger Supreme XT, even though I have far more expensive rigs. Don't be fooled by the pricetag. On top of being reasonably light it's seems to be nearly indestructible. 1 Quote

I have two of the heavy action Carbon Fires, got them both for 40 a piece. I also have more expensive stuff, but find these rods in my hands a lot. I lost all of my rods in a fire three years ago, and while waiting for the insurance money I had to have something to use- I planned on giving them to my nephew when I got all of my new high dollar stuff. Don't tell him, there isn't going to be any for a while! Quote
Super User Teal Posted April 25, 2020 Super User Posted April 25, 2020 Once you get an idea of what you want, really dig through the internet and save some.money. Just in the past week, I've found some good deals.... I need more gear like I need a hole in my head, but I got some 13 Origin C's for 55 each. (They msrp for 100) and got a 7'1 Heavy fast Daiwa Tatula rod for 109. They go for 159. That's only 165 for a good pitching combo thst I can get alot of work out of. If you decide on Lews reels, they can always be found at discounted prices, I found dang good prices on tatula reels. Quote
Born 2 fish Posted April 25, 2020 Posted April 25, 2020 I use a OG Tatula 7’6 flipping rod with a 8.1 Tatula sv 50lb 832. Absolutely love it. 1 Quote
Ksam1234 Posted April 26, 2020 Posted April 26, 2020 I have the Megabass Orochi XX Perfect Pitch with a (yes I know) Lews Tournament pro LFS 7:5:1 gear ratio on 16 pound sunline super fc sniper fluoro. If I need to go into heavy heavy slop I switch to 50 pound braid. Quote
The Kangler Posted April 27, 2020 Posted April 27, 2020 Shimano Expride A 7’2”HF and a Shimano Bantam MGL spooled with 50lb sufix 832. Killer combo. Quote
