fishindad Posted April 23, 2020 Posted April 23, 2020 FYI, I ordered a few things from the Falcon website and they were kind enough to include their 2020 catalog. Even though it doesn't state that any of their rods are made in the US, they are going to have the Caras, including the micro guide versions (CCM) and the Mike McClelland versions (MMC)!! It states the blanks are not the same as the Expert blanks (T3 with Crossmatch) so maybe the blanks are made in the US??? I'm not connected with Falcon in any way, just a true Cara rod lover ? 2 Quote

Southcoast Bassin Posted April 23, 2020 Posted April 23, 2020 Spoke to Brad Hallman ... He still likes the Experts better. The blanks are all made in the same place No offense... The Experts are lighter and more sensitive than the Cara’s. More importantly the Experts are the best balanced rod that Falcon has ever made. Quote

No offense taken. I'll just have a difficult time replacing the Cara rods I have but I will have to try an Expert soon! Quote
Southcoast Bassin Posted April 23, 2020 Posted April 23, 2020 Believe me ... I was a bitter buy USA guy too. I broke a Cara last year and Falcon offered to ship me an Expert for free. They said .. try it and if you don’t like it we will reimburse you for your broken Cara. 6 Experts later and a whole bunch of fishing ... I’m an Expert believer. Most of these rods have components from overseas so at the end of the day it’s all relative. Hallman and Christie are the 2 big Falcon pros now . They fish Experts Quote
jbrew73 Posted April 23, 2020 Posted April 23, 2020 I only have one expert vs ......too many to count caras and I swear the expert is just as good if not better. Either way I’m looking forward to see what they bring to the table. Quote
Super User Jig Man Posted April 23, 2020 Super User Posted April 23, 2020 They are made in the USA. I was by the factory where they are made this afternoon. 1 Quote

It is sensitive for its price point, with plenty of back bone, maybe too much for Senkos and the spoons I toss at Reds. I really dig it. I fish mostly from the bank, but it rides in the Yak too. So, it is an All Around rod, from throwing TRigged Senkos, Swim jigs and even some frogs. I was looking at getting a second set up, but getting into a M/F for throwing Senkos at Largemouth and Golden spoons at Reds. I'm going to see if I can take a reel in and a couple lead weights and checking out the new Experts...the Falcon power/action classification are odd. You really need to put them in hand and check them out. I have about 60 LM in the 10"-22" range this year and a couple dozen Reds in the 2-7lbs range. Quote

They fish Experts There's no chance any of the Falcon guys fish only the Experts. I think I would wait until the new Cara is actually released to judge how it stacks up. The Cara will be the top of the rod again . It will be interesting to see where it comes in price wise, I'd guess under $400. If it comes in up against the KLX/H3 it could be a tough sell. There's some guy named McClelland who lives down the road a piece that has been known to have a few Falcons laying around Quote
Southcoast Bassin Posted April 24, 2020 Posted April 24, 2020 Sorry my man ... wrong They have all tried them. Of course McCelland will go for the Cara. His names on it and gets paid for it .. LOL Quote
rangerjockey Posted April 24, 2020 Posted April 24, 2020 Wrong about ? He doesn't fish only the Cara anymore than Hallman fishes only the Expert. Quote
fishindad Posted April 24, 2020 Author Posted April 24, 2020 Guys, I didn't mean to turn this into a debate. I do think we as Americans should do everything we can, at every opportunity, to support American-soil businesses. The way I see it, as long as there's American workers building Cara (or whatever brand/line of) rods, my money is going to support them. Especially going forward after this pandemic is over. I am fortunate to earn a good living and can afford (and own a couple) high end Loomis and St Croix rods but I want to support a smaller, "mom and pop" rod company like Falcon. I feel that fishing with say, NRX rods is not going to put more fish in the boat (and I've got a GLX and Legend Extreme), for me. I don't care what Christie, Hallman, or McClelland fish but I would bet they all fish both Experts and Caras. I've seen film of Christie dropshotting with a Bucoo spinning rod on Mille Lacs. They will use whatever rod gets the job done. JMHO. Quote
swhit140 Posted April 25, 2020 Posted April 25, 2020 I think Falcon has a lot of great rod models/series. I think the BuCoo casting rods are one of the best bang for your buck rods out there. I'm just not a fan of the grey grip on them. I did just purchase my first Falcon Expert rod that I can't wait to get on the water with it. Quote
CFDoc Posted August 14, 2020 Posted August 14, 2020 So did falcon change their mind? All their links to Cara information are dead. And there’s nothing about pre orders or anything like that at the online tackle shops. Wonder what’s going on?!? Quote
Southcoast Bassin Posted August 28, 2020 Posted August 28, 2020 Notice .... there is still no Cara. Quote
CFDoc Posted August 28, 2020 Posted August 28, 2020 It is perplexing. Falcon has seemed to remove any and all information related to the Cara release. Instead of trying to drum up interest in a new product release, they seem to be working to make the product disappear... Quote
Super User Tywithay Posted August 28, 2020 Super User Posted August 28, 2020 Reckon it's hard to get a new product from overseas during a global pandemic. Quote

All of the new rods I've seen won't be in stock until late in the year, save for a select few. There's likely warehouses full of current models, but building entirely new rods would take longer than normal. Quote
Southcoast Bassin Posted September 1, 2020 Posted September 1, 2020 Falcon is pretty much depleted of most of their stock. I spoke to them yesterday and they are saying the new Cara will be out in December. Price point will be 249.99 It will be based on the same T7 format with all the same models and actions. They do consider it an upgrade over the Experts ... however they confirmed that the Expert will still be the lighter rod and should be a bit more sensitive in certain applications. The bottom line is all the Falcon pro’s still use all 3 lines Low Rider .. Expert and Cara. Hallman in fact still uses the Low Rider rods more than all of them. Considering that he has them all and is sponsored that speaks volumes in terms of the overall value of that Low Rider. Quote
