Justinvance88 Posted April 23, 2020 Posted April 23, 2020 Hey guys, so I live in North Tx and my home lake is Lake Ray Hubbard. I bought a boat 3 years ago and for the last two years I ALWAYS got skunked. But at the beginning of this year I decided to really dig in and try and do as much research as I could, and so far it seems to be paying off. So far this year I’ve caught more fish than I ever have. Usually anywhere from 3-8 fish ranging from 2-4 lbs spending anywhere from 3-5 hours out. I can’t really find any info on the lake so I’m just wondering if anyone else is having as good of luck as me or maybe I’m finally learning how to fish the lake. Would love to find find some more fishing tactics for the lake for after spring and into the summer and just any tips in general, because I think I’m becoming obsessed. Quote
JK Jake Posted April 23, 2020 Posted April 23, 2020 It’s good to see some more north Texas people joining the site! I’ve only fished on Ray Hubbard several times for a February tournament last year, but I didn’t have too much action(as it was in the winter), and the fish that I did catch were all on the rocks or next to concrete sea walls(as it was winter and the bass like the heat from the rock). So I can’t give you too much advice but I’ve heard that chatterbaits/bladed jigs work well on Ray Hubbard. Also, are there any boat ramps open on Ray Hubbard right now? I might try going there myself as I haven’t been in a while. Hope you catch some big ones! Quote
Justinvance88 Posted April 24, 2020 Author Posted April 24, 2020 Yeh it is a tough lake to fish. Especially during the late summer and winter. I started out on the rip rap when I first started fishing there and had some success but it’s so loud and choppy I never really enjoyed myself. My spot of choice on the lake is the coves on the south end of the lake. I’ve been killing them with soft plastics. And to answer your question yes all the ramps are open except for chandlers landing. They are repaving the parking lot which I found out the hard way today when I went to put in there. Quote
Sissyfishing Posted October 20, 2020 Posted October 20, 2020 Down size most bass in ray Hubbard are small less than 2 lbs most under 12 inches. Fish I30 riprap and boat ramps, marinas and tire reefs with lite line 4 or 6 lbs small shad lures, a one inch white single tail grub on a 1/16 oz lead head will catch em, small rapala’s and torpedo’s Ned rigs twitch or weightless 4 inch worms etc. Quote
Softybear Posted November 17, 2020 Posted November 17, 2020 I also live on Lake Hubbard and it is tough to fish! I lived on Lake Conroe previously for 8 years. Normally catch 10 fish or more a day. I consider myself a multi species fisherman. Bass in the morning and crappie or sandbass in the afternoon. I agree fishing the rip rap or under the bridges is disconcerting for the traffic noise. The spring and early summer are easier for me during spawn. Late Fall to early winter is tough. I have been shutout the last two times. But also some of the every day regulars have only caught a couple of random crappie or sandbass. I see thousands of fish out in the middle of the lake suspending anywhere from 15-32 ft deep. I have thrown every size and color of jigs, slabs, cranks, trolled and deep trolled with downrigger. I’ve tried minnows on several occasions. There are so many baitfish out in the middle my minnow is one of 5 million. So yeah I’m with you, I’m just going To keep at it. I’ve heard the north end above 66 is bette in the winter m, but you have to know how to navigate through the timber and stumps which can be daunting. I’m going to go north the next few times to see if I have better success. Quote
Msl819 Posted December 10, 2020 Posted December 10, 2020 I learned to water ski on Ray Hubbard. I can’t help much with fishing info but my memory of Ray Hubbard is the wind always seemed to blow harder on the lake than elsewhere. It seemed like most times we tried to get on the water it was either too windy to ski or very rough. Great fond memories though. Good luck! Quote
