Bluegillslayer Posted April 23, 2020 Posted April 23, 2020 whats your favorite brand and colors of curly tail grubs that you recommend. Im thinking of curly tail grubs in the 3 inch range right now i have a big pack of 3 inch black Mister Twister grubs and planning on purchasing some 3 inch black PowerGrubs are their any better colors then black. My waters i fish right now are slightly stained thanks. Quote
Super User scaleface Posted April 23, 2020 Super User Posted April 23, 2020 For swimming I like shad colors , for bottom bouncing I prefer darker colors like brown/chartreuse and purple, Quote
basscrusher Posted April 23, 2020 Posted April 23, 2020 you only need a few colors of grubs. Black, chartreuse, white, some kind of pumpkin or watermelon IF water is fairly clear. One of my favorites is black w/ chart. tail. Good in stained water, and for some reason good in winter. Also does well for me when I fish the salt around dusk (trout and redfish). 1 Quote

Favorites include a 2-inch version can't recall the brand) bought at Walmart, on a small jig head, and a 3-inch version (Powerbait neon/chartreuse) again on a small jig head, say 1/8 oz. Catches panfish and largemouth no problem. I've had good luck with the 3-inchers in slightly stained waters. 1 Quote

rtwvumtneer6 Posted April 23, 2020 Posted April 23, 2020 If you're looking for a grub trailer, I like the yamamoto double tail for jigs in cold water. Come 20 to a pack and 4 or 5". Green pumpkin, black and blue. 5" sounds huge, but it's really not. The Zoom Fat Albert takes a finesse spinnerbait to a whole new level. Usually just match the skirt, and it's usually white. I also have some of the Chompers double tail. Beware, the scent will knock your socks off. 1 Quote
Super User Tywithay Posted April 23, 2020 Super User Posted April 23, 2020 I really like the Yamamoto 4" grubs, but they're super soft so they tear easily. Quote

Finessegenics Posted April 23, 2020 Posted April 23, 2020 Mister Twister 4” and 3”. That’s my preference but I don’t think the brand matters. Only colors I use for bass are pearl and black. Quote

You didn’t hear it from me....... As far as curly tail grubs, there’s a whole bunch of great brands. Mister twister has been doing heavy lifting for me lately on massive schools of angry white bass in heavy current. Powerbait makes great ones, rage tail makes great ones in the crappie size, zoom makes awesome ones of all sizes. Kalins have always been a favorite but after many years of fishing shallow shoals for smallmouth with all kinds of grubs, I think my buddy is onto something with a 5 inch big bite baits watermelon curly tail. It’s almost like the big grub just makes them angrier, he has put a whooping on me when I was reeling 3” grubs Quote

You're not crappie fishing. You can fish these traditionally on a jig head or swim them weightless. 1 Quote
Super User Spankey Posted April 23, 2020 Super User Posted April 23, 2020 For river Smallies 3” is primarily what I fish but do use 4” also. Many work great. Everything from BPS to Kailans to Zoom. But in my case the Smallies seem to prefer Power Grubs. Maybe not a lot of color options with them but color does not seem to matter much. 1 Quote
Super User Log Catcher Posted April 23, 2020 Super User Posted April 23, 2020 I like the Zoom Fat Albert grubs in Green Pumpkin, Watermelon Seed, Rootbeer Pepper Green. Quote
