Daiwa Steez vs New 19Metanium Mgl

I'm not interested in a Daiwa vs Shimano thread no is anyone else. I've been a hardcore shimano guy but I'm thinking about branching out. This would go on the 7'3 MH Adrena. I'm interested in the comparisons between the two reels. Originally I posted the steez A but that's obviously not the comparable reel. I'm most interested in a Metanium style comparison in the daiwa lineup

I've had a few of the previous version MGL

 

I also have tons of Daiwa reels, to me the Steez SV TW a better comparison than a Steez A.

 

The Steez SV TWS casts a broad variety of lures better than most reels.

 

The Steez A is more of a work horse, I use it on my heavy rated rods.

 

The Steez SV TW I use for Medium and Medium Heavy.

 

The Metaniums I had were very nice but after having so many Daiwa reels I just preferred the braking system more on them, other than that i felt that they were equally refined, the finish on the previous MGL were off easily vs the Steez reels similar to how the old school Zillions had fragile finishes.

It’s still too early to tell, imo...

 

the steez models have been on the market for years, same with the metaniums butttt these 2020 ones are really just getting to their owners now. Mine’s coming in on Monday (saw another guy with the same deal). 
 

To be 100% frank, those reels are just gonna be different flavors of awesome. The steez has a relatively unimpeachable record (although, I’m of the opinion that they’re too little reel for the insane price) and a tiny, core solid metanium with brass gears will be similarly top of the line barring some godawful, unforeseen quality control circumstance. Its probably a matter of whose format/ergonomics you prefer. I do better/cast farther with shimanos personally but that doesn’t mean much if you’re a guy who likes the daiwa feel

There is really no comparison, two different philosophies, but either are the best out of any other brand and its not even an argument, it all comes down to which braking profile you prefer and ergonomics in relation to your fishing style and grip.

I too am a big Shimano fan but if I was looking for function over form, the Steez gets my vote.  

 

I have several Shimano reels but I have to confess I do not own a Metanium.  I do have the Steez SV TWS and I would recommend this reel all day long.  It's truly fantastic and it may be the best reel I have ever fished (still debating between this reel and the Antares 19 though).  My only complaint is that it sort of flexes under load.  I know some will say "Nope" but it does if the fish is big enough.  I have not found a thing this reel can't handle except lures over 3/4oz but that may be because of the rod I use with it.  It's not completely a finesse reel but it does cast light lures extremely well.  The one thing on this reel that out shines all the rest, despite it being super smooth and light weight, is the breaking system.  I don't think I have ever had a backlash.
