norb Posted April 22, 2020 Posted April 22, 2020 what do you guys generally think of this rod? im looking at the 7’4 heavy, what would you use this rod for? these rods seem to be on the heavier side weight wise (5.6 oz) so im wondering if these are comfortable to fish with all day 1 Quote
Super User FryDog62 Posted April 22, 2020 Super User Posted April 22, 2020 I haven’t fished that specific rod, but I have LTB and other SC rods of that length/power. Personally I found much lighter options that were just as strong and not as tip heavy. It can be a long day at 5.6 ounces... Quote
Super User Tywithay Posted April 22, 2020 Super User Posted April 22, 2020 I remember fishing with glass rods and 13oz round reels for hours on end and now 5oz is too heavy...yikes. The new extremes are a little heavier than some, but it's mostly in the handle so the balance is incredible. 3 Quote
JLewis134 Posted April 22, 2020 Posted April 22, 2020 Incredible rod! Highly recommend. Balances well. The new AGS guides are a great touch! It's really not that heavy. The Dobyns 735C Champion weighs the same amount if that helps. Balance is important. It doesn't feel heavy in hand at all especially for a 7'4 H Quote

I'm not Canadian but have been to Toronto, Prince Edward Island, as well as explored Nova Scotia multiple times. Amazing place. BTW yes Tim Hortons is better than Starbucks and Scottsboro ice cream is better than anything else here. All kidding aside, the rod is spectacular. The AGS guides were a great touch! 2 Quote

Also like to hit up Lac St Louis sometimes. I'm still going to go out for the pike and walleye opener and hopefully the police give me no trouble. We should definitely get together once all this craziness is done. Anyways, If you get a hold of the rod let us know what you think! Quote

I work in rdp but never fished there, i mostly fish riviere des miles iles, rdp near the 19 and lac deux montagne. I know a very good walleye spot on the rdp and a good pike spot on the st lawrence, ill hit you up when the season starts! 1 Quote

Most other Canadians would consider it sacrilegious, but I prefer McDonalds coffee over Timmies ?...I wonder if McD's American blend is the same as the Canadian. 1 Quote
evo2s197 Posted April 22, 2020 Posted April 22, 2020 I have 4 of these new Xtremes so far, OVERALL they are probably the best rods I've ever purchased or used, I'm just waiting on more of the models to be released before purchasing more, hopefully soon but who knows now with this pandemic. Right now I have One 7ft4 H Casting Two 7ft1 MH Casting One 7ft M Casting Dont worry about overall weight with these, they practically float in your hand. Quote

browne762 Posted April 22, 2020 Posted April 22, 2020 When they first released the new price on these I was pretty turned off by them seeing how they were about $200 more then the product they were replacing. After watching the TBassin' review I changed my mind some and if I could get a deal on one I would get one, but St Croix going on sale is pretty rare. Well, I ended up getting a couple at a discount so I will give them a go this year. Bass isn't open here where I fish so I have't used them yet. I do like the fit, finish and feel of the rods and they are like my Loomis Conquest rods in that regard which are in the similar price point. I have one 7'4" HF and one 7'1" MHXF both are paired with Bantums for now. They come with their own rod sock which is nice at something of this price range. 1 Quote

browne762 Posted April 22, 2020 Posted April 22, 2020 It doesn't in general feel heavy to me and with the Bantum it balances well to me. I like the way it feels and expect it to perform well, but that is just from my standing in my garage. I will start out using it for just about anything from heavy bladed jigs, glide baits, spinnerbaits, swim jigs, t-rigs and probably frogs too. Longer term I assume it will be more of a bottom contact jig or plastics rod. 1 Quote

I dont have a favorite per say but if you could only have one I would recommend the 7ft1 MH XFast, it can perform a plethora of tasks. The 7ft4 H is surprisingly versatile for a heavy rated rod, with 1/4 Bass Patrol rubber skirted jig and no trailer I can cast it an easy 85 feet and that's with 14 lb Sunline Structure and a Steez A. I've used it for Swim jigs, Carolina Rigs, Frogs, dragging heavy football Jigs, Spinnerbaits, Chatterbaits. 1 Quote
gilkeybr Posted April 23, 2020 Posted April 23, 2020 How do the next Extremes compare to an NRX in Power/Action? Does the 74H Extreme have similar power to an 894 NRX? Or is it more like a 895 is such a thing existed. Quote

Definitely has alot more power than a 894, i feel it has more backbone than the 895 as well , except it beats both of them in balance and can throw a broader range of lures, it has just enough tip to fish frogs really well also but the backbone to pull any bass easily out of the cover. It reminds me of the NRX 822dsr rods I had, it fishes small baits really well, but when you load up on a big fish it surprises you with the power it has, if that makes sense. Think of a 893, 894 and 895 from tip to butt all in one and unlike the NRX rods this one is not tip heavy Quote

Ogandrews Posted April 24, 2020 Posted April 24, 2020 The sensitivity and balance is going to completely outweigh the extra weight over say an nrx or a conquest. While musky fishing I throw 12-14 oz rods with 12-16oz reels with lures up to 16 oz for 12+ hours a day and you get used to it, there is no way you should get tired using a rod in the mid 5’s. I’m not saying that to make me seem so tough or something I just mean that weight is relative to what you use. Once you are used to using a rod that size than that is the norm. A musky rod feels normal to me, most bass rods feel like toothpicks when I’m fishing them which is part of why it’s so fun for me. 1 Quote
aceman387 Posted April 24, 2020 Posted April 24, 2020 Back a few weeks go St croix kept promising a video offering proof that the new legend extreme rod was the most sensitive rod they’ve ever built. Did they ever come out with that video? 1 Quote
