BassKicker42 Posted April 21, 2020 Posted April 21, 2020 Interested in how the 703 compares to the 705CB. I own a 705 CB so opinions on the 703 are especially welcomed. Thanks. Quote
LonnieP Posted April 21, 2020 Posted April 21, 2020 The 703 has a fast action. 705cb has a moderate/fast action more suitable for crankbaits. Quote
BassKicker42 Posted April 21, 2020 Author Posted April 21, 2020 I understand that lol. Fast can mean a lot of things. Is it closer to a mod fast or a true fast? Quote
waymont Posted April 21, 2020 Posted April 21, 2020 703 Fury is not a very fast action. There are lots of people who use them as cranking rods. They are very versatile rods. You can throw 1/4oz jigs, top water, 1/4oz T rigs no problem. 2 Quote
FishinBuck07 Posted April 21, 2020 Posted April 21, 2020 I have the 703, up until last year I used that rod for almost every technique. Now I am going to use it as a squarebill rod, and possibly still use it for a spinnerbait rod also! 1 Quote
swhit140 Posted April 21, 2020 Posted April 21, 2020 I like using the 703 for stick baits, smaller jigs/spinnerbaits,texas rigs The 705CB works great for crankbaits, lipless, jerk baits Quote

Great multipurpose rod. Use mine for traps, shallow cranks, spinnerbaits, small toowater, light Texas rig 1 Quote
BassKicker42 Posted April 22, 2020 Author Posted April 22, 2020 Ive heard that it’s in between the moderate fast of the 705cb and like a 704 Fast. Like a moderate fast plus. That would make it a great topwater rod and very versatile. It would mainly be on sexy dawg jr, Storm arashi cover pops, 2.5 wake baits, and weightless senkos. Maybe a chatterbait in a pinch but I throw those on a Sierra 734. Quote
kayaking_kev Posted April 22, 2020 Posted April 22, 2020 You can use the 703 for just about anything within it's lure capability. I've used it for jerkbaits a lot this winter, but I have thrown squarebills, chatterbaits, lipless, senkos, finesse jigs, and more on it. I like it so much I got the 663c a few weeks ago. I have owned 14 Dobyns, including the DC 734c & DRX 723c and I think the 703c is my most versatile. Quote
Super User ww2farmer Posted April 22, 2020 Super User Posted April 22, 2020 I own both....or should say owned both. The 703 does everything the 705 CB did as well (sometimes better) FOR ME, plus is more versatile when it comes to fishing other stuff like finesse jigs, light t-rigs, etc. I traded off my 705 CB for a second 703. Caveat: I fish around a lot of grass, and tend to upsize my treble hooks on most of my baits to 1x strong...and my favorite jerkbait, the lucky craft lightning pointer 98xr comes stock with 1x strong hooks....if you're using baits with lighter wire hooks, and not fishing grass as the primary source of cover, the 705 might be the better treble hooked bait rod. BassKicker42 Posted April 22, 2020 Author Posted April 22, 2020 Most of our ponds get choked mid summer so the extra power is nice. I have a 705CB already so a 703 would be a nice addition. I just sold my Tatula crankbait/topwater rod to buy a 703. Jt was nice, but I want the 703 for the versatility and it’s ability to be a topwater rod, but still throw all those other baits. My decision is made. Thanks for the input! It will be my 6th Dobyns rod. 1 Quote
