Hey all, I've been battling with knots and line lately. Been trying to get a good system for braid vs fluoro. Using a lot more fluoro lately and am trying decide on my go to knot.  I had been using the palomar and had a few lures come off.  So I thought I remembered several people suggesting only use palomar on braid. So I've been using the ICK lately.  I then watched a video where they tied two different lures on...both with fluoro and used an ICK on a chatterbait and a palomar on a swimbait underspin lol. So I'm just curious which knot do you go with for fluoro?  And I'm not talking about connecting two lines together...just line to lure knot. Thanks

Improved clinch is what I have been using for years.

Used the palomar knot all of last year without any issues. Just make sure you don’t cross lines around the hook eye and you’ll be golden.

There is less chance of you screwing up the IC with FC.

Save the palomar for braid.

Only Palomar knots here for both flouro and braid...nearly no issues compared to what I starting experiencing with the IC knot when I moved to flouro. IC was always fine on mono, FWIW.

San Diego Jam is the only one I use with flouro.

Improved clinch for me. I can't see well enough to tell if I have crossed line with the palomar.

Just don't twist the loop putting hooks or lures through it and lightly snug up the tag end before clinching the knot tight.

It doesn't mater what knot is used with FC line, the knot weaker then the line, about 75-80% for the majority of line with equal diameter.

Tie knots you are skilled with and can tie easily and correctly.

It's the line not the knot.

Palomar is a good knot for hooks and snaps or smaller size lures, the San Deigo jam knot is a good knot for lures and easy to tie using the lure weight* to help swing and wrap the tag end around the loop

Practice makes perfect knots.

Palamar is a great knot, but can be more difficult with large treble hook lures. I use it for hooks, jigs, and small lures. I  prefer some form of a uni, over any version of clinch knot.  A knot will always be the weakest link, use which ever one you can easily tie to the lure you are using.  I have tried every knot that I have been able to learn, from friends, books or videos.  I learn new knots whenever I can.  I have many favorites for different weights and type of line.  I still haven't found one that hasn't failed me at some time.   A Polamar or improved clinch tied correctly will most likely land any fish you  hook.

Those of you using the San Diego Jam knot please be advised.

The San Diego Jam knot is a California knot and is known in the State of California to cause cancer,  birth defects and other reproductive harm.

I've never had good luck with the Palomar Knot with FC. I never crossed the lines, but for some reason the knot is always very weak. I never had enough confidence to ever fish it. The 50 times I tried it at home in varying size lines was enough to make me steer clear of trying to fish it. I know lots of people have good luck with it. There's some knot spirit mojo that prevents me from getting some knots correct. No issues with the Palomar with any other line, just FC.

Here's the knot I switched over to, and I have had zero issues with it. It's very fast and easy to tie too.

Whatever line you're using, if you are unsure of the best knot for you to use, have a 'knot war' session. Take a length of line a few feet long and tie something on each using the competing knots and see which one breaks first. Try it a few times to make sure it's not a fluke.

A knot war is also good to see what happens to different types of line when you pull really hard on them. You can test two lines against each other by putting a split ring or a swivel in the middle to separate the two different types of line. You can connect multiple sections of line and test a bunch of lines and/or knots at once.

I used the so called “Shaw Grisby” knot” (google it) a few times and like that one also.
Easy, fast and it holds.

Being a knot that is put through the eye twice, I considered using it in heavy cover.
Once my back heals enough to get out I’m gonna give it more play.
