I've been three times in the past four weeks . The water temp is the same now as it was four weeks ago due to cool weather . I try to keep track of the bass I catch and in three outing I have caught approximately 80 bass , all but one on a spinnerbait . Water  in the low 50's  warming up in the afternoon and muddy .  Nothing big , one four lber but lots of chunky two lbers . Flooded shoreline brush is where most are at and cast have to be low trajectory or pitched into the pockets . I have seen and talked to several other boats catching very little . They are not getting the lures deep enough in the brush .

I lost the lure that was doing so well . 1/2 ounce with a #5 gold willow leaf main blade. The skirt , I guess,  could be called chartreuse shad, just a little chartreuse in it  . I went to assemble a couple more but am out of that blade .  I'll have to order some blades  .

I have a big day planned for tomorrow, a 14 hr float through some amazing smallmouth water, do it every year.

Catch 80% of fish on white 1/4 spinnerbaits, they cover water so well when dealing with current.

Plus we can't stop as this is a 21 mile float, hitting eddies with spinnerbaits is fantastic.

you have to be cruising to cover that much water in 14 hours.

I’ve been throwing a spinner bait relentlessly to no avail

Spinnerbaits are one of my favorite lures to use since there is so many ways to fish with it. The bass bite spinnerbaits year round in Florida so I always have a couple spinnerbaits in my tacklebox.

I used to fish a SB often, then got away from them for some reason.

But, this winter I ordered 6-7 new baits; gonna get back on em here soon.  My water is still 43-44 deg

I agree with it being spinnerbait time...I was struggling at a local pond Sunday...ran to another pond and switched to a 3\8ths Nichols metal flake blade spinner and caught 11 bass in 2 hours or so. 2 dinks the other 9 between 2.5 and 3.5 lbs. Caught 8 on the spinnerbait 3 on a  swim jig.

In the spring time I throw Spinnerbaits a lot as they work so well.

As scalface, I’ve caught most of my bass so far on them.

My lake has been around 50* or so for the last couple weeks and have done well with a 1/2 oz in a white/shad pattern with silver blades.

I would like to add this is in stained water with only one foot of visibility where “usually” i’d throw a darker skirt and gold blades but the white/silver has produced much better.

Its getting close to toad time . Even though the water here is still cold  ,the days are getting longer . I caught one bass in the grass with a Stanley Ribbett and had a half dozen more hit it but they didnt take it in their mouths . Next week  or two I expect to start catching some .

What Spinnerbait in particular do you use? I have a similar float trip planned!

Every spring I have great success with a white spinnerbait with willow leaf blades paired with a white Keitech Swing Impact Fat trailer. I’ve tried other paddle tail trailers but none works as well as the Keitech.

I always think it is spinnerbait time. If I don't have one on my rod you better check my pulse:dance10:

My first fish of the year started out with a spinnerbait about a month ago.

If I wouldn't have thrown one tonight, I don't think I'd have caught a fish.  Tried a jig, several cranks, a popper, & Grass Pig but the only thing that caught was a white and black SB with silver Colorado blades.  Water temps were mid 50's.

The local pond I fish the most has been crystal clear all spring, and it doesn't have any big bass, so I have been hesitant to throw a spinnerbait yet. Last night however when it got dark (sunset into dark) I tied on a black and blue mini spinnerbait (I forget the brand but I think it's the Booyah Pond Magic) and picked up four quick dinks in about 20 minutes.

The new Booyah Jason Christie Covert series along with finesse spinner baits from Z-Man have rekindled my interest and confidence in spinner bait fishing for bass !
