Anyone ever bought a rod they wish they didn’t after using it? For example it felt good in the store, but when you fished with it you were like I’m not a fan. Unfortunately I have a little of that going on right now, but I guess it happens.

Yes it has happened to me before and I held on to it to long to return it so I gave it away. It was expensive and I guess this is why I didn’t wanna let it go but eventually I realized that I had no need for it and didn’t want to sell it half price on Craigslist or spend money shipping it so I let it go to someone that could get some use out of it.

Been there. Done that. Advil can't kill the pain in my wallet, but I made a new friend.    jj

Surprisingly it’s my Avid X. I have a Legend X that I like, and also a Mojo series but after fishing 3 or 4 times with the Avid X I just don’t like it.

Current model Legend elite spinning rod, phenix recon2, the 2016 IMX, Legend Xtreme with the nsfw handle... and pretty much anything with a split grip.

Absolutely,  I bought a Daiwa Presso ultralight rod, thought it was great for a week, then realized it was too stiff and the handle was too small-diameter to be comfortable.

Ended up cutting the handle off, gluing a tennessee handle to it, and giving up on casting 1/32 oz with it.

Exactly - I've got rods that others turn their noses up at...but they work fine for me and I have no complaints so far. Have 3 new brand/styles this year...we'll see if they work good for me.

The original Fenwick Elite Tech Bass.  I have the 7' Heavy.  It's a pool cue.  It's a great catfish rod and maybe good for a few heavier jigs but it's not sensitive, it's heavy and it doesn't balance well with anything I have ever put on it and it even has a weight set in the butt of the rod to help.  I should have, at that time, bought a St. Croix Avid.  It was only $30-$40 more.

I later purchased another Elite Tech spinning rod in the newer version.  It's pretty good, no regrets with this one.

And thats where my disliked Kistler Helium 3 falls in.

I didn't like the Avid X I had either. The guides are weird and it just didn't feel like the quality of rod I was expecting.

Had a 7' 3" Kastking Speed Demon Pro "Jig and Worm" rod I bought to be used as such. Rod was way too light. Probably would have made a good weightless senko, but even a finesse jig caused the tip to flex noticeably. Wasn't that the rod was bad, just not what I was hoping for.

I regret nothing, because at the time that's what I wanted and I always get good deals on them, so if I decide I don't like something I can always sell it for what I paid for it. Some examples are the 13 Fishing Fate Black rods. As soon as I got them, I knew I was just going to sell them, but I only paid $40 each for them. The two SLX rods I got in the combo deals weren't my favorite either, but I sold them and just ended up getting great deals on the reels. At least I get to experience the rods first hand and in most cases get to fish with them a little bit.

My 7'11 H Legend Extreme.  It's very tip heavy but that isn't my biggest problem.  There is a huge gap between the top on the reel seat and the first guide.  There needs to be an additional stripper guide to stop the line from blowing all over the place. Next would be a gen 1 7'3 heavy Abu Villain. Can't even bend the blank.

I bought, without ever handling one, a Cousin's bass rod.  This was back when things were a little leaner for me, and someone that I believed told me how great these rods were for their price.  I did some research, found that Cousin's (I don't hear about them any more) was a pretty respectable saltwater rod company.  So I paid around $200 with shipping, and opening it and looking at it was probably the happiest I ever was with it.  I would say it was performance wise Falcon BuCoo or maybe just shy of it.  It was well put together, the rod finisher did a good job, but when my friend lost his rod while we were camping, I handed him that one and said keep it.  I wish I had put one of my Abu Gen3 Revos on it and taken the OG Revo off of it.

St. Croix Mojo Bass Glass.  Only rod I've ever bought without first holding it and feeling it.  Even then I probably still would have bought it as it's not the feel that bugs me.  I just do not like the way it casts or fishes.  It is resigned to the garage and someday I will most likely give it away

So many Ive lost count!

I think like many I started inexpensive and worked my way up to the point of being extremely anal. Worst decision so far was to have a rod custom made going way over board and discovering it is way to long and heavy for any use at the moment.  Making matters worse it is the most expensive rod I have ever purchased...........

Loomis MBR783C E6X Version.  Its not that there is anything wrong with it and the action is fine.  But now that I own a couple other imx pro models I regret not just saving and taking the plunge to MBR 783 Imx pro or GLX in the 1st place. Its really stupid because the rod does it’s job just fine.  but I’ve gotten to this point where I am so fussy about my gear it’s crazy.  It will bug me until sell it at a loss or make it a back up rod and upgrade to the better one.  Regret not doing it right the 1st time...

I had St. Croix LTB’s and AvidX for years and was so loyal I never really compared to anything else.  But when I did I was amazed how the MH and Heavy power St. Croix rods weighed more and were so tip heavy compared to many other brands in the same price range.  I had just bought 3 of them for the coming season thinking they’d be okay and I’d get used to them.

But then I was in a tackle shop buying line and decided to check out some other rods they had on sale.  After handling and reading the specs of rods made by other manufacturers I started to have some serious buyer’s remorse.

I ended up selling my almost new SC rods and several others I already owned the following week at a loss, but I’ve been much happier with a number of other brands since.

I now purposely try not to get too many of any one brand and force myself to try new things so I don’t make the same mistake of being brand blind again.

Yep.  Rainshadow Eternity 610MXF.  It's nowhere close to a medium power.  It's identical to my NFC DS6107, which is a mag-light power.

I have had a little buyer remorse in the past, but mainly because the rod or the operator didnt perform well at what I had in mind.   I remember about 15 years ago i bought a BPS Rick Clunn power stick ( the old purple ones) it was a 7,0 heavy.  I was thinking it was gonna be the best frog rod, maybe a great heavy spinner bait rod. It was hard to pitch and thing under 3/8.  It was horrible at those things... it simply didnt have the tip.  Months later I was fishing and I was on a once and a life time bite, the bass were backed up in the water willow and milfoil.  And they were blowing up  right at the edge of them.  As the after noon went on, they bite turned very slow, on accident I overcasted and went back into the thick milfoil I got hung up in it and when I ripped the bait to get it loose, it fell deep, and the snack

.. long story short i found that they were way back in there and back then i didnt have a heavy flipping stick, i tied on a heavy bullet weight and put it on the Rick clunn rod and I found that it was great as a pitching stick or for punching the heavy grass.  It was short enough that i can pitch it accurately.   That was a long time ago, I still have that rod and I still use it.

My left wrist regrets my Tatula XT 7'6" Heavy.  The tip is heavy, and it's a pain to shake a jig on the end of it from the seated position in my kayak.  I have no complaints when I fish it standing.  I have no complaints about the sensitivity.  I have no complaints about how I can drag fish from cover with it or rocket a half ounce jig and plastic out into the wild wet yonder.

Overall, I'm pleased with the rod.  I own three in the lineup and will add one more for lighter jigs and Texas rigs, and plan to put a Daiwa Tatula SV TWS on it and up my skipping game.

It's just tip heavy.  6.5/10.  I won't replace it for as long as it shall live.  She has landed a lot of nice bass in the short time she's been with me.

Whew, I'm long winded.

IMO those 7' glass or graphite/glass rods sold as cranking sticks make great catfish rods.   To me, any glass rod is too heavy to throw stuff for very long.

Got a NRX 901S this winter thinking it would be the ultimate finesse rod.  Started fantasizing about selling it pretty much the moment I took it out of the rod tube and put a reel on it.  I was expecting a light rod with the same action as my 852/854, but that was not the case.  Lesson learned from dipping my toe into the very light rod realm.

I have a Loomis E6X and a Dobyns Fury that I regret buying, but that's the chance that you take when you order a rod without getting to handle it first before buying.
