But, I just went and grabbed a T-wing reel and put the line under the bar. You see that line angle? I don't even have this reel fully spooled, it would be worse if it was. Now the real issue... You see how the line is going through the groove? That is with the thumb bar pressed down (casting). The entire purpose of the T-wing is that when casting the line is allowed to flow freely through the larger wing portion of the line guide. With the line under the bar, like I mentioned earlier, it pins the line into the groove and basically turns the T-wing into a normal line guide, defeating it's entire purpose. With the line OVER the bar... See how the line has a straight, completely unhindered path from the spool through the T-wing to the first guide and allowed to pass through the wing portion of the T-wing? That's the intent of the design when casting. When the T-wing flips back down when you reengage the spool to reel again...the line is forced into the smaller groove so that it can lay the line more evenly back onto the spool....like so: 5 3

Consistent with my casting as well.

I was so embarrassed to ask this. I feel a little better now knowing that there is more confusion out there. I’m sold though. It has to be fed over. I wish my Steez CT SV picture was a little better. That reel emphasizes the importance of going over. Looking at a Tatula SV TWS on its own, I can see where there would be confusion. 1
rtwvumtneer6 Posted April 22, 2020 Posted April 22, 2020 I'm sure that's a great reel, but I think I'll stick with Shimano ? 2 2
rangerjockey Posted April 22, 2020 Posted April 22, 2020 And that's the pic that threw me, it looks to me like the line dog legs down to the Twing, In Mass Yaks pic it's obvious he's right.. I wish it would be the last time I was wrong but it's not gonna happen... Nothing personal 1

TBAG Posted April 23, 2020 Posted April 23, 2020 Under for sure. No j/k I went out in the garage and looked at the last and only Daiwa T-wing reel I own and sure enough, over. 1
detroit1 Posted April 23, 2020 Posted April 23, 2020 All of the extra casting distance of the t wing design gets eaten up by the line scraping that bar. Dumb design if you ask me....

Smells like fish Posted April 23, 2020 Posted April 23, 2020 What a silly thread. It goes over on Mondays, Tuesday's and Fridays only but if it's raining or below 63 degrees then it certainly goes under. It's all in the owners manual. 1
