Southcoast Bassin Posted April 20, 2020 Posted April 20, 2020 Hello all I’m looking for a few nice spinning rods to keep on the boat for my son and my brother. Not looking to break the bank but I want good quality and sensitivity. Something under $200 and something under $150 I heard Fenwick makes a good rod. Any suggestions ? Possibly even a good used one in great shape ? Any help would be great Thank you Quote
Finessegenics Posted April 20, 2020 Posted April 20, 2020 The ones I want to suggest for the $200 range are slightly over $200. Under $150, the Mojo Bass are hard to beat. Most of the models are $140 but some are $150. Quote
Southcoast Bassin Posted April 20, 2020 Author Posted April 20, 2020 What do you recommend just over 200 ? Im hearing good things about the Loomis E6X rods ? I use an IMX pro and I’m wondering how the E6X would compare to the IMX Pro? Quote
rangerjockey Posted April 20, 2020 Posted April 20, 2020 What about the Falcon ? I have the Ark as well and they are a decent rod for the money. I got mine at Okeechobee tackle but looks like TW is also selling them now. Quote

I use an IMX pro and I’m wondering how the E6X would compare to the IMX Pro? Never owned an E6X but I've almost pulled the trigger on them just from holding them in store. They just feel good in the hand. However, I've also heard that for the price they are not worth it when compared to other brands in the same price range. For spinning, just over $200, I suggest the St Croix Avid X and the the regular Avid. Both are made from the same blank but the Avid X has micro guides and a split grip while the Avid has a full cork grip and regular sized guides. The reel seat and handle are extremely comfortable on the Avid X but if you're a braid to leader guy the micro guides could give you some trouble. If that's the case then consider the Avid. All the St Croix rods from the Premier up have a 15 year warranty (let's be real that is basically a lifetime warranty). I've also heard great things about the Shimano Zodias, it has great reviews. I'd want to try out the rod but they're hard to find around here. 2 Quote
FrankN209 Posted April 20, 2020 Posted April 20, 2020 Under 200.00 Shimano Zodias... Under 150.00 Powell Endurance... 1 Quote
Ogandrews Posted April 20, 2020 Posted April 20, 2020 Under 200 would be a Shimano zodias, dobyns Sierra, and a g loomis e6x if you can find one a couple bucks off 150 no question would be the st croix mojo bass, I have used a good amount of rods in that price range and I think this one really stands out from the crowd. 1 1 Quote
Southcoast Bassin Posted April 20, 2020 Author Posted April 20, 2020 I actually found some Ex6 for $175 . Im thinking of pulling the trigger . The handles do look comfortable. I did check out the Falcon spinning because I absolutely love the Expert casting rods for the money. However the Falcon spinning has the handle set upfront with the tightening knob on the back. It seems very awkward ... The handles look just like The Megabass and I didn’t like them. Call me crazy but the good old fashioned full cork handles are though to beat. Quote
NJBasstard Posted April 20, 2020 Posted April 20, 2020 Dobyns Sierra can be had for $150 w/o sale if you know where to look. The St Croix Avid's are right around the $200 mark. Also they don't get mentioned much and not sure how you feel about the handles but the Cashion Elites are a super sensitive rod for under $200. 1 Quote
Hulkster Posted April 20, 2020 Posted April 20, 2020 i would spend $10 more and get either the E6X or the regular Avid (not avid X some people hate the microguides). I own both and they are great rods. A note about the E6X the 2018 models are a lot better than the first generation models. i have one from each generation and the 2018 model is lighter and better balanced. 1 Quote
Southcoast Bassin Posted April 20, 2020 Author Posted April 20, 2020 Yes ... I’m hearing great things about the E6X and the IMX Pro if I can find a deal. Quote

The reel nut is in the back on the Loomis too. Quote
Oxxed Posted September 1, 2021 Posted September 1, 2021 I have rods at a bunch of different price points and in my opinion these are the best $200 rods (as of Sept 2021). I'd also say that $200 is where your going to get your best value as far as fishing rods are concerned. All to say, don't think you're going to get a huge jump in sensitivity or weight reduction if you end up spending $300 on a rod. Note: that prices may vary depending on rod length. - Shimano: Zodias - Daiwa: Tatula Elite (Non-AGS) - St. Croix: Victory - Megabass: Levante - G. Loomis: E6X Bonus (hidden gem) - Halo: KSII Elite I know this post is a little late but I hope it helps. Cheers A Quote
Dumbbassanglr Posted September 2, 2021 Posted September 2, 2021 I’ve had almost all the rods mentioned above and the levante has been the best all around and I’m typically a Shimano gloomis guy. Quote

Super User Boomstick Posted September 2, 2021 Super User Posted September 2, 2021 In what power and action are you looking for? The 6'9" St Croix Avid X ML/XF is pretty solid for around $200, and for under $150 you can get it's little brother in the Mojo Bass line. Quote
Big Hands Posted September 2, 2021 Posted September 2, 2021 It's nice to think that if one rod in a series is great, that the rest will be equally as wonderful (or useful to a given angler for their purposes), but I don't think that applies in many cases. I am left to speculate why someone would want a rod in the $200 range and another in the $150 range. Are your son and brother both going to do the same thing with them? Maybe it would be better to get one that costs $120 and the other in the $230 range if the budget is hard and fast. The lack of pertinent details makes it difficult to offer much more than a very generalized answer. My inner project manager is getting the best of me and I think I may be way too anxious to help someone else spend their own money, **facepalm** Quote
