Elite Image Fishing Posted February 10, 2009 Posted February 10, 2009 Hey guys, I've searched the forum for re-decking a boat. I have found plenty of pics and things like that. But I have not been able to find any blueprints for extending the deck of the boat. I will post a picture of what I am working with and you guys can make suggestions. I really need help with this so thanks in advance for all the help. I want to extend the casting deck to the console... PLEASE HELP!!! Quote
BassResource.com Advertiser FD. Posted February 11, 2009 BassResource.com Advertiser Posted February 11, 2009 I did a fiberglass jon about 15 years ago. I used treated 2x4's to build a frame with liquid nails and galvanized deck screws. Then 3/4" pressure treated plywood and covered that with indoor/outdoor carpet. I would go all the way to the console and tie it into your new frame. I would also leave it open under the console so you have easy access and foot room. Quote
Super User cart7t Posted February 11, 2009 Super User Posted February 11, 2009 There aren't any blueprints because virtually every deck extension is different depending on the boat. It looks like you've already got a partial deck there you can build off of. I'd use regular framing lumber to add the frame for the extension and seal it with either epoxy resin or what I used, Minwax helmsman urethane. treated wood is very heavy, takes a while to dry out and some adhesives don't adhere to it well. done Posted February 11, 2009 Posted February 11, 2009 You could try a modified version of the aluminum structure on a couple jons on here. I did mine that way the fraem put like 5 lbs on the boat. Then used plywood (soaked in Thompsons) and caprented works great! Quote
nick76 Posted February 11, 2009 Posted February 11, 2009 Dave, You may want to check out the iboats forums. They have a lot of info on there about decks and restoring old boats. Tons of info, tons of people to help, and tons of mistakes to learn from. Quote
Strike King Posted February 11, 2009 Posted February 11, 2009 I'm also in the middle of a deck lift and extension on my 1982 16 1/2 ft Bass attacker' heres a couple pix for now. i'll more before and after pix on its own topic when completed. I'm no carpenter by any means and im sure theres 300 better ways to do this but heres how im doing it :-) in pic #1 you can see the original deck with the new frame added. Quote
Strike King Posted February 11, 2009 Posted February 11, 2009 in pic #2 you can see the new extended deck with the TM pedal recessed and storage cutouts ready for the lids. on the left side the oars will slide under the new deck. Quote
Elite Image Fishing Posted February 12, 2009 Author Posted February 12, 2009 Hey man how did you measure to cut the plywood for the top of the deck? I cant figure out how to cut the wood precisely to fit inside the boat???? Quote
Strike King Posted February 12, 2009 Posted February 12, 2009 Hey man how did you measure to cut the plywood for the top of the deck? I cant figure out how to cut the wood precisely to fit inside the boat???? yeah hehe.. i was worried about that too! i layed both pieces in the middle and hanging over the edge of the boat. then marked them using the edge of the boat to get the shape. flipped the wood over then made the 1st cut. then layed them back in the middle, eyeballed and marked again. once they fit in the boat i made some trim cuts to get it right (or close lol) Quote
Elite Image Fishing Posted February 12, 2009 Author Posted February 12, 2009 nice bro, sounds like we are in the same boat... no pun intended. Good luck to you with yours. I'll be sure to throw some pics up when im done. Quote
