lunka4me Posted February 10, 2009 Posted February 10, 2009 Hi all, I am new to the site and really enjoy reading through all the posts. I have a LCX 38 and 112 for my skeeter. My question is what kind of battery would you recommend for running these as well as livewells, lights etc... I was thinking about getting either a deep-cycle or a starting/deep-cycle. Is there a standard preference? P.s i don't think it would be a good idea to tie them into the trolling motor batteries. Thanks in advance for the help. Quote
HossFly Posted February 11, 2009 Posted February 11, 2009 Welcome; i'm a newbie as well...... Myself, i get the biggest/strongest i can afford. Deep-cycle on trolling, standard on cranking side. Does it not have batteries in it now? Quote
bass or bass ? Posted February 11, 2009 Posted February 11, 2009 I use 2 top of the line Wal-Mart deep cycle batteries for starting and for everything else. I have them on a 1/2/both/off switch 8-) so one battery is a dedicated starting battery that stays charged for that purpose only, and the other runs all my accessories. lunka4me Posted February 11, 2009 Author Posted February 11, 2009 The boat has 2 batteries for the 24v Trolling motor and a starting battery for everything else. Last year with only one of the fish finders on as well as with the livewells going it drained the starting battery on a couple of occasions. We fish primarily small bodies of water so a "run" from spot to spot is usually 3-4 minutes to charge the battery. I was thinking about putting in a deep cycle because it will extend the use time and should also have the cranking amps to start the motor, but should I go with a starting/deep cycle to make sure I have the cranking amps? Al Wolbach Posted February 11, 2009 Posted February 11, 2009 I am probably the exception to the rule. I use a deep cycle group 27 battery for cranking a 225 Yamaha and to power all accessories including gps, livewells and lights. The only accessory that I power with the trolling batteries is black lights, all other accessories are powered by cranking battery. The origional cranking battery supplied with the boat when purchased new was not a deep cycle and had a short life( for whatever reason). I switched to a deep cycle about 8 years ago and never looked back. My take on dual purpose batteries is, they aren't really good for either purpose...........I'm sure this will bring outrage from someone but it has worked for me for a number of years..........................Al Quote
