New steering cables?

I have a 92 Stratos 201 and the steering is about impossible to turn.  I can replace the cables or install on of these kits.

Any thoughts?  Will this fit my Stratos?  How do I measure to get the right length kit? Has anyone used this?

Thought's?

First, that is a single cable system, you'll need a dual.

Second, you'll need to look under the dash to see what's in there now.  It's quite possible you've got the same R&P.

Third,  locate the steering cables coming from under the dash, teleflex normally has the numbers on the cable every several feet or so.

Fourth, the correct length will be on the cable.  If you're still not sure, BPS and Cabela's both have measuring guides in their marine catalogs.

Fifth, If money isn't an object, you might want to think about a hydraulic system.

Sixth, depending on your motor setup and whether you have a jackplate or not, changing cables normally requires lifting the engine off the back of the boat.

I'm with cart7, I would not even want to be on the same lake as you when you're running single cable steering in a 201.  The factory installed dual cable for a reason and it wasn't just so they could charge more money.

I replaced the cables in a friends 94 201 three years ago and they weren't that bad to replace but you're still looking at over $300 for two new cables.  

As mentioned, now would be a great time to look into upgrading the hydraulic steering.  It will be some of the best money you can spend.  That 201 I replaced the cables in three years ago needs at least one new one again.  You can barely turn the dang thing.

If you don't have a jackplate and have any plans on adding one, you should look at getting 14' cables.  If your's are the same as my friends they are 13'

I'm no boat repaiman, but when i had the transom on my 'tracker replaced, the steering was so bad that you almost could not turn it.

Repairman replaced the "sacrifiacle anode" on the motor and it steered like new....!

What the heck that had to do with the cable......, but it worked!

'Forgot to add..i, too was thinking of  new cables,but the 'ole 'anode was a heck of a lot cheaper......

I had to replace the steering cable system on my boat last year.  It was not cheap, but at least I can steer again.  Do not *** you.

I replaced a steering cable on my small boat last summer. After you figure out the size you need google Teleflex cables in the length you need(saved about $50.00). The Teleflex you posted has a new helm, Maybe you can get by with just cables. When you take the old cables out ck the helm and see if it is free.
