dgkasper58 Posted April 19, 2020 Posted April 19, 2020 So I am getting bored... What baits do you instantly swap out the hooks? I have not had a problem with stock hooks but recognize that there are much better options out there and was looking to see if there were any trends with hooks that you do not like- but like the bait. I am not a fan of Whopper Plopper hooks since they are so thick (diameter)- but usually throw on braid so I have not swapped out. S-waver same thing- hooks too thick IMO- get swapped out. Anybody have any others that want to give me something to do? Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted April 19, 2020 Global Moderator Posted April 19, 2020 Almost all of them. Exceptions are Berkley, Duo Realis, Spro and Megabass. Duo and Berkley are the only ones I have very many of though. Quote
Revival Posted April 19, 2020 Posted April 19, 2020 Almost all my stock hooks get swapped out unless they come with Mustad triple grips. Everything else gets swapped out with the triple grips. But to start out, I always changed stock hooks from Strike King. I learned the hard way after losing 2 good fish. Quote

I'm sold on the triple grips (KVD Elites, not the standard). I crush the barbs on mine and they seem to hold just fine. Quote

OnthePotomac Posted April 19, 2020 Posted April 19, 2020 Triple grips on traps and Silver Buddies, on which I mount the hooks on split rings Quote
Black Hawk Basser Posted April 20, 2020 Posted April 20, 2020 I've changed out hooks on Bomber squarebills, Storm Chug Bugs and several models of lipless cranks. Quote
swhit140 Posted April 20, 2020 Posted April 20, 2020 I change a large majority of my trebles, most of my baits are #4 & #6 hook size. I usually buy them in bulk 100 pack for around $20-35. If you're replacing hooks get yourself a pair of split ring pliers also. Quote
