If you have to handle a fish besides lipping it, have your hands Wet before hand, less chance of wiping the slime off the fish.

This is why I wear a shirt and pants.

But seriously, I catch way too many fish to waste my time washing them between each one.  Fish slime is a part if the fun...

I know people who will rub scent on their hands before handling baits.

Catfish, carp, or drum? I’ll rinse my hands in the water. White bass, largemouth, bluegill? Doesn’t bother me, I’m out there to fish and when the white bass are going good catching 100+ in a day is nothing. When I get home I’ll use a good dose of lemon juice and toothpaste and I’m good to go

Bass I have never noticed slime or smell. I catch a lot of Northern Pike and I rinse my hands off after everyone. They are very slimy and if I didn't rinse I'd probably throw my rod in the water.  I always have a towel on the deck of my boat.

That wonderful fish funk is where my name comes from. My Mrs. complains about the fish smell. When we go to her parents of course I fish at their place too and so her steering wheel reeks and she meets me at the door of her parents with hand sanitizer. I say it's the smell of success baby!!!

I'll wipe my hands in the water after grabbing a catfish. Usually lip bass so not a lot of slime transferred in that process. Smell doesn't really bother me too much but if my wife complains when I get home that my hands smell like fish, I wash them off with toothpaste, takes the smell right off.

Dead serious, kills bad breath and fights fishy fingers.

My fishing partner's jacket works great and I don't have to worry about washing it. His wife thinks that he catches fish. It's a Win - Win.

This made me laugh quite a bit

I just wipe my hands on my pants. Sometimes I rinse them in the lake/river before wiping.

Come on man really?  If it bothered me I'd never say a word about it.

Whenever I catch a fish, I try to avoid touching it and getting the slime all over me. I hate when my hands are all gross. Some people don't even rinse their hands off after handling a fish. I usually wash my hands in the water and use a towel to dry them.Anybody else feel this way?

No, not really. In fact, when tournament fishing we don't take time to wash our hands before we have a snack or lunch. We just wipe our hands on our jeans or pants.

As long as we don't get any death cooties we are OK.

I carry a couple of rags with me fishing. One I always dunk in the water and wring it until it is just damp. I wipe my hands off with that one after handling a fish then dry them with a dry rag.

If I pack lunch for a boat trip it’s in a sandwich baggie and I use the bag to handle the sandwich so I don’t touch it.

I have some anti bacterial wipes in the car which I use before I drive home.

When I am home I was my hands with a mixture of Dawn dish detergent and de-fishing soap I got at Walmart. I found nothing better to get rid of the fish slime and smell.

It reminds me of the fishing brohs I see on youtube wearing gloves to handle fish even when its not cold outside, and fishing a shaky head or dropshot with casting gear because they of course are manly manly men, but don't wanna take a chance of getting a spine in their thumb from a flopping and flapping bass.

Manliness in this day and age is a confusing subject to me.

I use to do a lot of catfishing . On hot summer nights I would catch shad with a throw net . Then knock the daylights out of channel cats and blues . I would get back to  the boat ramp early in the morning and be gross and sticky all over . I'd back the trailer in , load the boat then strip off and take a bath in the lake . I used ivory soap because it floated . Put my gross sticky clothes back on and go home .

My hands smell nastiest when handling bait, especially anchovies. Not so bad when fishing for black bass.

But ya, quick rinse in the water if needed, and if I remember that I have a towel I will use that. If I just lipped it then probably not. I don't catch enough fish here to have a real routine :(

Speaking of gloves ^^, it is normal to find blue rubber gloves scattered along the banks of the delta, sometimes 30 - 40 in one spot. I can't even fathom leaving such a mess behind.

Imagine if a virus like Covid came along that only killed selfish idiots. Maybe one day...

I also did a great deal of catfishing back in the day, with chicken liver and sun ripened shrimp, fish slime was a sanitizer in comparison. Lol

I never really considered Bass that slimy really but never had the urge to fondle and kiss them.?

just watched a video where Seth Feider caught a bass then immediately touched his face afterwords, thats what made me realize this.

Hell, I eat the things. Getting slime on my face is a sign of success

I only get to fish from the bank so that's what grass is for?

In all seriousness, if you have fish smell on your hands after a trip or after cleaning fish, (a) good for you, you didn't get skunked, and (b) ketchup takes the smell off--slather ketchup on your hands and scrub it around, rinse it off, then scrub with soap and water, and rinse it. Same logic as taking a bath in tomato juice if you get sprayed by a skunk.

I would way rather have fish stank on my hands than ketchup
