BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted April 17, 2020 BassResource.com Administrator Posted April 17, 2020 I am saddened to hear that the fishing industry's largest trade show has been "cancelled", and will be held online-only. Super User jbsoonerfan Posted April 17, 2020 Super User Posted April 17, 2020 I hope the country is back to work in July, but I can see why they would just cancel it now. 1 Quote
DomQ Posted April 17, 2020 Posted April 17, 2020 Boo I was really hoping we would see a 14" squirrel top water bait being chased by a spider this year. 4 7 Quote
Super User ATA Posted April 17, 2020 Super User Posted April 17, 2020 I was really looking forward to it. So Sad. 1 Quote

CountryboyinDC Posted April 18, 2020 Posted April 18, 2020 Funny thing is 1/2 they fishing kayaks they introduced last year still haven't made it to market. Quote
Super User Boomstick Posted April 18, 2020 Super User Posted April 18, 2020 That's unfortunate, but I get it. Personally, I would like to see them find a way to do an online ICast so we can watch while safely quarantined in at home 2 Quote

JediAmoeba Posted April 18, 2020 Posted April 18, 2020 A lot of the product will be delayed...like all of it. 1 Quote
nascar2428 Posted April 18, 2020 Posted April 18, 2020 Since icast isn't open to the public, I'm not sure what the big deal is. The majority of the info that we received in the past was from you tube videos. Companies can send their own videos to prospective buyers and release them to the general public when they see fit. 2 Quote
Super User Sam Posted April 18, 2020 Super User Posted April 18, 2020 They have no choice. Too many unknowns that could cause serious problems during the event and you need time to make plans, travel to the show, set up your sets, schedule pro meetings and signing tables, and all the things that go with the ICAST trade show. Yes, the products can be presented on videos but it is the person-to-person meetings and interviews that make ICAST so enjoyable to watch, especially Glenn's productions with various pros and manufacturers. We have to put safety first for everyone and their families. 1 Quote

With everything shut down the companies are not getting any products produced or packaged... Quote

BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted April 18, 2020 Author BassResource.com Administrator Posted April 18, 2020 ICAST is NOT a consumer show. It's NOT for the public. It's NOT a sports show that you're used to having near your home. Retail sales are prohibited. It is an industry tradeshow, open only to people who WORK in the industry. It's for businesses and media only. This is where most business is conducted for the following year. Large chains such as WalMart, Dicks, and Academy (aka "buyers") place their orders here. Lure and fishing gear companies line up their business partnerships for the following year. Fishing shows, TV networks, websites, and magazines renew sponsorships and sign new ones. New business relationships are made, and existing ones are reaffirmed. It's the heartbeat of the fishing industry. And oh ya, a lot of companies debut their latest and greatest products for two reasons: To generate more business and orders from buyers at the show To create consumer interest and media buzz in order to increase #1 above You only see this last part, which is really just window dressing for what this show is really all about. So this closure is more meaningful and impactful to the industry as a whole, but eventually to you the consumer late this year and into next. We'll see how this all pans out as time rolls on. 2 Quote

This is definitely true. That said, there's been several times where I saw media coverage from an ICAST show and thought "wow that really is useful" and went out and bought it. Quote

Some will order the same volume; others less; and some none at all until they see the samples later this year. Hopefully things will change for the better and we can have the new baits and tackle in the marketplace by this summer. Quote

Details here: https://fishingtackleretailer.com/icast-2020-cancelled/ Speaking of being cancelled, what about the fishing shows that will be on TV next year? Aren't most or all of them filmed a year before? I've been wondering, have Bill Dance and the other fishing shows been recording their shows for next year? What about the MLF Cup events? Are they shooting/recording the Cup events this year to air next year or have they been cancelled too? Quote
Beeno Posted April 20, 2020 Posted April 20, 2020 (edited) The cancellation of ICAST is a sighn of the economic downturn coming in the fishing industry. Edited April 21, 2020 by Beeno Quote
