JediAmoeba Posted April 17, 2020 Posted April 17, 2020 I was watching a video with jerkbaits, and in it, they stated people had problems with Vision 110's breaking. Has anyone had this problem? I have been fishing a few of them pretty hard (I am by no means easy on them) and haven't had any break. I also have not tried the provoke jerkbait - what are yinz thoughts on them - Good, bad, indifferent? The wraps are an interesting concept but I can't see that not affecting the baits buoyancy. Fun story - I would also like to add that yesterday I had my first experience getting a treble stuck in me. I was low on replacement hooks and changed the back one and the front ones on a Vision 110+2 and left the stock one in the middle. Anyway, I caught a small bass and the bait caught in my backpack as I was unhooking the bass on my kayak...as I was pulling the hook out of the backpack, I unfortunately hooked my thumb on the onky katsuage hook on the bait, past the barb. So I clipped the hook off by the split ring and then was able to poke the hook point out another part of my thumb and clip it off at the barb so I could back it out. I would say the stock hooks are really sharp hooks. It didn't hurt at all but that sucked and I don't want a repeat of this. Lol 1 Quote
Super User NHBull Posted April 17, 2020 Super User Posted April 17, 2020 The only time I broke one was when I bounced it off my engine cowling. A few bend standard hooks, but never anything else 1 Quote
BlakeMolone Posted April 17, 2020 Posted April 17, 2020 I recently just hooked myself for the first time and it also involved a treble hook stuck in a backpack, mine was pretty painful though ? not sure about the durability of the mega bass but it looks like he catches plenty of fish on the 6th sense jerkbaits, makes me want to pick up a few. 1 Quote

camman Posted April 17, 2020 Posted April 17, 2020 I’ve broken a couple bouncing them of rocks or the boat. Interestingly enough the part that broke on them were the bills. I’ve done it to a few Lucky Crafts as well and those are a mix between broken bills or cracked baits 1 Quote

kykayak Posted April 17, 2020 Posted April 17, 2020 I actually recently sent the 110 pictured below to Megabass after filling out their warranty claim sheet. While not broken, I was fishing the bait and noticed it had a strange action. Looking it over I noticed what appeared to be moisture inside the bait. ISo I put it away for the day. On my next fishing trip I saw what appeared to be rust inside the bait. The 110 looks basically new with no visible cracks, chipping, or holes. I'm hopeful megabass will replace the bait. As long as they replace it I won't have an issue. When you produce thousands of baits you're bound to have a few imperfections. I'm just glad in this case it happened to a translucent bait where the problem could easily be discovered. 2 1 Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted April 17, 2020 Global Moderator Posted April 17, 2020 I've broken 2 for no apparent reason (of the 5 I've owned). I've got about a dozen Provokes, they're sweet baits. 1 Quote
walleyecrazy Posted April 17, 2020 Posted April 17, 2020 I've seen a number of reviews stating that they have had issues with the lips breaking on them. I actually just picked up my first two 110's to try them out, so I am hoping that it isn't much of an issue. I usually use the Provokes, and have not had a single issue with those. I picked up the 110's to see how I do with them as compared to the Provoke. 1 Quote
rangerjockey Posted April 17, 2020 Posted April 17, 2020 I wouldn't take his word for gospel, typical you tube pro. I've never had one break. Years ago there was some with some pretty weak bills but I haven't seen that in awhile. The Provoke is a good bait. I'm a fan of the Ozark juice color. Quote
Dens228 Posted April 17, 2020 Posted April 17, 2020 I have a lot of MegaBass jerkbaits... I've bent a hook or two, usually trying to get it unstuck from wood, but I've never broken one. I will say I want to cry when I loose one to a snag though. 1 Quote

Logan S Posted April 17, 2020 Posted April 17, 2020 The bills will break if you smack them on something hard enough or if you dig them into hard bottoms enough. I've broken a few, always been my fault though. It's not an issue IMO, they don't just fall apart...Something has to happen to cause it. If it does happen, Megabass will replace them for you if you send them in, I've done it once and have several friends that have as well. I've never heard of them not replacing a broken bill if someone sends it in. If you want a more durable 110, try the 110 FX Tour - the one with the folding lip. The folding lip is very durable. 1 Quote
gilkeybr Posted April 17, 2020 Posted April 17, 2020 Broke a +1 when I cast it straight into the trolling motor head. Those ball bearings fly a long way when they aren't slowed down by the rest of the lure! I've never had a bill break, and some of my bills are pretty chewed up from banging into rocks. I'm also one of those people that slaps the lure against the water to get weeds off. Still no failure. Have had the stock hooks bend. But I figure thats the price you pay for them to be such light wire hooks. My only complaint about the MB lures is I had a few puff up, presumably due to heat/sun exposure in a tackle box I left on the dock. Sent them in under warranty and they were replaced. 3 Quote
Tackleholic Posted April 17, 2020 Posted April 17, 2020 I've had broken lips from the 110's hitting a rock and also slapping them against the windshield and trolling motor. Lots of bent hooks from hook removals and snags. Regardless of all that, they are finely tuned, have incredible action, and remain my only jerkbait of choice. 1 Quote

Tom It's a growth of some sort. I'm sure it was an infection that was healed and grew the "eyebrow". The fish was over 5 pounds and obviously feeding so it didn't seem to be bothering it. 1 Quote

Super User DitchPanda Posted April 17, 2020 Super User Posted April 17, 2020 I've also heard they are a little more delicate than other baits but they are another example of pay to play. If they catch fish as good as everybody says then oh well. Look at yamamoto baits particularly senko. They catch fish arguably better than any other soft stickbait. But they are also more fragile and expensive so you gotta decide if it's worth it to you. Now onto the milliken thing...I've been a fan for years since before he started doing this youtube thing full time. Of course with that switch he has become a commercial for 6th sense in some of his videos...no different than regular TV fishing shows. They have been that way forever so I don't fault him for selling a companies product to make a living...that's how businesses work. One thing I don't like is somebody badmouthing a reputable company to make there's look better. Not saying that's what he did in this video but if it is the case..well that's not cool. Quote

Seems like the plastic gets brittle or something. Maybe it’s just when I throw them most. Have broken the bills off 1 or 2 DTs, but those have been from hitting riprap along the shoreline edge or bridge pilings (user error). Quote
