CountryboyinDC Posted April 16, 2020 Posted April 16, 2020 I got an email from ALX about how they source their rod components, and I thought some folks might be interested in this. I know St. Croix is pretty transparent about this too. Others, like Loomis are supposedly made in USA, but my new IMX doesn't even have that on the rod itself. There are other companies like Fitzgerald that make some of their rods in the US, others not so much. I realize that not everyone cares where things are made and being made in the US is not the only way to build a good product (witness Gary Dobyns' rods), but for others of us, this actually influences what we buy. I know that I was buying Falcon rods until they moved all production offshore. Anyway, here's the link to the blog: https://alxrods.com/blogs/news/where-are-alx-rods-built?utm_campaign=Where are ALX Rods built blog post (VzExS3)&utm_medium=email&utm_source=Active College Program&_ke=eyJrbF9lbWFpbCI6ICJ2dGJjaG1tanJAanVuby5jb20iLCAia2xfY29tcGFueV9pZCI6ICJMTmM4cjIifQ%3D%3D 1 Quote
Super User J Francho Posted April 17, 2020 Super User Posted April 17, 2020 The skilled labor is the part I most admire and value. That's the most expensive part. 2 Quote
Randy Price Posted April 17, 2020 Posted April 17, 2020 I'm a St. Croix guy. I visit their factory a couple of times a year and like purchasing products made by fellow Americans when I can! 1 Quote
Hulkster Posted April 17, 2020 Posted April 17, 2020 my two E6X's both say 'handcrafted in washington state' on them. the IMX Pro's dont? All loomis rods are made there. 1 Quote

Super User DogBone_384 Posted April 17, 2020 Super User Posted April 17, 2020 My Kistlers are made in USA. My Abu's, BPS, ***, and Fenwicks are made everywhere else. 1 Quote
NJBasstard Posted April 17, 2020 Posted April 17, 2020 Kistler, Cashion, G Loomis, Edge, St Croix, Lamiglass, Hammer and I'm sure theirs others. I try to buy the best product for my applications at a specific price point..sometimes it's American made and sometimes it's not. If only we had more American companies manufacturing low-profile reels. The only one I know of is Ardent. 2 Quote

All loomis rods are made there. Mine don't, in fact the label that came with them made no mention. I have only one other Loomis rod, and it's a spin jig rod I found at a yard sale years ago (GL2). It says made in Washington. 47 minutes ago, NJBasstard said: Kistler, Cashion, G Loomis, Edge, St Croix, Lamiglass, Hammer and I'm sure theirs others. They were about the last company that did though. Lamiglas still makes a few rods here, definitely not all of them. Quote
TBAG Posted April 17, 2020 Posted April 17, 2020 I only own three brands of rods at the moment. I like to buy USA made stuff whenever possible but honestly it doesn't bother me as much as others if it's not. I like quality stuff because I work hard for what I have. Loomis - USA St. Croix - USA Dobyns- China 1 Quote

Super User FishTank Posted April 18, 2020 Super User Posted April 18, 2020 I have rods from St. Croix, G. Loomis, Abu Garcia, 13 Fishing, Quantum and Fenwick so all over the place. I do have a preference for rods made in the US with quality workmanship. Quote
Super User Hammer 4 Posted April 18, 2020 Super User Posted April 18, 2020 All of my rods are made overseas.... Quote
Ogandrews Posted April 18, 2020 Posted April 18, 2020 I like that the high end st croix rods are still made in Wisconsin, gives me another reason to get one of their top of the line rods. I know the less expensive ones are made in Mexico which I still like better than something being made in China. The rest is loomis which I think is Washington, dobyns which I’m not sure, and Shimano which I think is overseas. 1 Quote

Super User jbsoonerfan Posted April 18, 2020 Super User Posted April 18, 2020 Does made in the USA mean from the carbon up, grips, guides, etc. Or simply assembled in the USA? Just wondering. Quote
Super User NYWayfarer Posted April 18, 2020 Super User Posted April 18, 2020 Mine are from the moors and they have been cursed by Maleficent to not catch big Bass. Seriously though I have 2 American St Croix rods and everything else is made overseas. 1 Quote

I have been throwing Falcon’s for over 20 years I own 7 of the Falcon Cara Rods made in the USA and 6 of the Experts made overseas. I hate to rain on a parade ... The New Experts made overseas completely blow the doors off of the Cara’s and it’s not close. The Experts are lighter more sensitive and fish allot more comfortable. In fact the Experts are very similar to my Loomis rods for half the price . Bottom line is Falcon is a USA company and I will continue to support them. Quote

Not anymore, Ark Rod in Harrison Arkansas used to make Falcon but they sourced overseas and last I heard Ark Rod was closing or was closed. The Cara has been discontinued. There is a new American made rod on the way. Made here in the Ozarks . I hope to have one in a couple weeks to try. Quote
