Lund pro V 16 thoughts

Hey everyone I’m in the market for a new boat. I just sold my cheap old bumblebee bass boat this week and I have my eyes set on a 96 Lund pro v 16. It has a mercury 100hp 4 stroke on it and the interior is in super good shape. I know it’s definitely not a bass boat but with how much multi species fishing i do and fishing on the Mississippi I think it would be perfect. Anyone here own a 16ft pro v at some point that can give some insight and some Stuff to look out for?

I have a Lund 1625 fury xl I bought brand new in 2016 has 60hp its a great multi species fishing machine the deeper v for me is great I like to sneak out on Lake Michigan from time to time don’t know much about the older pro v but if the price is right for you and everything checks out good good boat to start out with

That’s a sweet boat. Motor on the one I looked at was sweet but everything else was trashed, definitely not worth the money. Hard to find anything in my area worth buying right now, really thinking about getting a 16 foot tracker xl. Not much more expensive than what I’ve been looking at for used stuff and I get a brand new boat. Who knows tomorrow I’ll probably want a different boat, need to make my mind up quick the seasons almost here.

I have owned 3 boats in my lifetime the 1st one I had was a fixer uppper I wouldn’t ever do that again lol I did a lot of research dollar for dollar the Lund out did the tracker I looked at that tracker really hard but started adding the options and tracker wasn’t so good for the price I got everything I wanted with the Lund except for the swing away tongue on the trailer but no big deal it still fits in garage lol

If you make a decision quickly, you may get disappointed. If you're going to buy a boat just to but a boat, I would just get a jon or utility boat. Less things to go wrong. If you want to buy a boat with an interior and storage etc, take your time until the right one pops up.

I’ve been looking for the last 6 months or so and I keep coming back to the idea of that tracker xl. I know I want a 16 foot aluminum boat because I do a lot of fishing in rivers and smaller lakes, as well as I don’t think anything over 16 would fit in my garage unless I got a folding tongue. I like tillers for the space But a single console is good too, not picky either way. I want something bare bones with a decent amount of casting deck space for the size of the boat. Rod lockers aren’t super important to me as a bunch of the time I’ll be musky/pike fishing with 8-9ft rods which won’t fit anyway. I’d also preferably have a 40 or 50 horse 4 stroke, good balance of power and weight/fuel efficiency. For what I want I think that tracker classic xl is a pretty good option, it’s not as deep a V as a pro V obviously but with me mostly fishing smaller water and rivers it’s not very necessary. I already bought a boat last year just to buy a boat and although it worked and was super fun because it was a 17fter with a 140 horse on it, I have thought this through a lot more and know what I want. If you guys have any suggestions based on what I want I’d love some more feedback, thanks.

I missed the part about the Tracker in the earlier post. My only concern is it big enough to fish the Mississippi? Looks like a good boat for inland lakes but will it be safe enough on the river with shipping and barge traffic and if nasty weather rolls in? Will you be fishing the Mississippi 80% of the time or 20% of the time. I think when buying a boat, safety should be first priority, functionality second priority, and budget third priority. Most people buy boats with those priorities reversed.

Mississippi I fish a decent amount but the majority of the fishing I’ve done on that river was out of a 12 foot johnboat or 14 foot tin can you would find at a resort. You really don’t need a huge boat, never gets super wavy on the river channel itself. I do fish lake pepin which is a super wide spot in the Mississippi, a couple miles wide so there I would only go out if it was flat calm. A bunch of the time I’m out there I’m in the backwaters which, while covering thousands of acres in pool 4 alone, is quite small shallow water in most spots as it is little fingers and side bays off the river. I’d also really like to take this boat to the rainy river on the Canada Minnesota boarder which is just a little smaller than the Mississippi.

I have the same boat, 2017, great boat exc for the exposed cleats which I find way too many times with hands and clothing.  I cobbled some covers for mine, but recessed cleats would be very much appreciated.
