Khang Nguyen Posted April 14, 2020 Posted April 14, 2020 I have been trying to decide on what reel I should get and I have been having some difficulty choosing. The two reels that have been on my mind lately is the Curado DC and Chronarch MGL. I would like to know if one is smaller then the other and if there is a difference in the casting distance. I am planning to use it for either frogs or jigs, but I am not sure. If you guys could give me your preferences on both reels it would be amazing, and if you have had any negative experiences please let me know too! Thank You! Quote
Super User jbsoonerfan Posted April 14, 2020 Super User Posted April 14, 2020 I have owned both and here is my opinion on each. The Chronarch is smaller in the hand than the Curado but a little bit longer in the front end. This is mainly due to the side plate of the DC being slightly larger. The Curado DC is a great cast and crank reel. It excels in the wind more than anything with the DC braking system. It is not "backlash proof" but it will certainly reduce accidents when fishing in the wind. For my use the Chronarch MGL is more of a refined reel that was better suited for bottom contact presentations. I sold both of mine in favor or the Bantam MGL. It does everything both of those reels do. It is a workhorse at cranking but it also does a great job when pitching or flipping. It doesn't like ultra light weight baits, but that would be the only thing I would say it doesn't do really well. In fact, I might even go with a Scorpion MGL in place of the Curado DC. 3 Quote
Super User Jig Man Posted April 14, 2020 Super User Posted April 14, 2020 I have the Curado DC and a Chronarch ci4. I like the Curado DC a little better. I’m going to sell the Chronarch and buy another Curado DC. 1 Quote
Derek1 Posted April 14, 2020 Posted April 14, 2020 I have them both, don’t really feel like it’s a apples to apples comparison. I use the dc on a cranking rod, mostly for spinnerbaits. It does fantastic for that. I feel it shines on moving baits, like said above. The chronarch I use on a 6’-6” medium fast rod for light t rigs, finess jigs, ball heads and small Swimbaits. I’m sure it can handle heavier baits, but I like it best on a light crisp rod. 1 Quote

OnthePotomac Posted April 15, 2020 Posted April 15, 2020 Don't own a DC, but sure like my MGL and use it for everything.. My gosh that is a smooth effortless reel to cast with. Quote
