Super User scaleface Posted April 14, 2020 Super User Posted April 14, 2020 Your first visit to a 100 acre lake , elec motor only and have taken five rod and reel combos . You decide to just go junk fishing around the banks . You notice a rip rap dam , fallen trees and lily pads . What are the first five lures you tie on ? The weather conditions are , look out your window .This time of year . Water normal and stained . 1 Quote

Super User WRB Posted April 14, 2020 Super User Posted April 14, 2020 Strange title Junk Fishing. Dee Thomas used to call Flipping junk fishing, targeting bass under floatsum mats of junk. Then Ike comes along and starts calling using multiple lures junk fishing, so I guess 5 lures are now junk fishing. To be honest with everyone it's rare day I use more then 5 different types of lures. New small lake I would 1st try to find a map to determine what structure elements are available. I need to know water temps to determine seasonal period instead of looking out the window. Right now wherecI fish it's still the spawn cycle so I would look for beds if walking the shoreline in the wind protected areas. No sign of beds then go up to the dam start, then to the 1st major point availble. Bank fishing I only carry 1 outfit and it would be a sliding weight T-rigged soft plastic of some type with a pocket full of bullet weights between 3/16- 3/8 oz and hooks between 3/0-5/0. Soft plastics would be Yamamoto pearl white Kreature for bed fishing, 6" & 9" Uptom's straight tail worms in purple thunder and Black grape/blue neon, 7" Roboworm in MM111 and Oxblood w/ lt red flake, Yamamoto 5" Hula grub in 330 and 238 smoke. Hard lure would be Pompaduer in black bone, this lure cast very good in the wind with my jig & worm rods and prefer it over Whooper Plopper. Tom 1 Quote

It was about Guy Eaker and he was a good 'Junk" fisherman . 24 minutes ago, WRB said: Right now wherecI fish it's still the spawn cycle so I would look for beds if walking the shoreline in the wind protected areas. My wording is confusing . It was meant fishing from a boat but following the bank and fishing whatever cover you come across . I fish elec motor lake only lakes and fish my way from spot to spot . Super User Mobasser Posted April 14, 2020 Super User Posted April 14, 2020 I've heard the term junk fishing before. I always figured weedless baits for this. Weedgaurd jigs and t rigs would probably be first choice. Quote
Super User scaleface Posted April 14, 2020 Author Super User Posted April 14, 2020 I always thought of it as going down the bank and fishing anything and everything that comes along . Whereas pattern fishing is focusing on certain cover , structure or somethinhg . 4 Quote
Super User Mobasser Posted April 14, 2020 Super User Posted April 14, 2020 I've also heard the term " trash" fishing too. I'm thinking it's the same as junk fishing. Lots of good bass hiding around the trash and junk. 2 Quote
Michigander Posted April 14, 2020 Posted April 14, 2020 I thought junk fishing was five fish, each at a different location and different lure. Jargon is fun. 1 Quote

You pick a stretch of bank and start fishing it without worrying too much about how you fish it. It's what you do when you get back to the weight in site five minutes early, find a bank and fish for five minutes with whatever you have tied on. Also, it's the last resort after you've tried everything you can think of to catch a fish with no success. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted April 14, 2020 Super User Posted April 14, 2020 Junk fishing? Colors I don't like , but bought for lures I like. 1 Quote
Super User J Francho Posted April 14, 2020 Super User Posted April 14, 2020 Junk fishing just means rotating through baits and cover each cast. It's the opposite of pattern fishing. 2 Quote
Super User Tennessee Boy Posted April 14, 2020 Super User Posted April 14, 2020 The opposite of pattern fishing? Yeah, I would agree with that. Now can we all agree on what pattern fishing is? ? 1 Quote
